About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel like you are battling something? It may be anxiety or depression; anger or regret; a difficult relationship; a memory, grudge or sense of somehow being ‘wrong’. It may be that you find yourself repeating negative patterns of behaviour or thought, or your responses take you by surprise. You may fear talking to others about your struggles, thinking they are unreasonable or that no-one can help. I will support you with curiosity and compassion as you explore your experiences and make connections. Together we can create space for you to reflect and reconnect with yourself.
I work primarily with Internal Family Systems (IFS), integrating it with other approaches where helpful, which supports self-understanding and self-compassion. IFS is a highly-regarded and evidence-based approach which explores our many different "parts" from a place of curiosity, compassion and presence. I also draw on other approaches including humanistic, person-centred, Transactional Analysis, CBT and Gestalt.
Whichever techniques or theories we may draw on, compassion is the foundation for my work.
Practice description
My work affirms the experiences of Autistic people and those of other neurotypes including HSP (highly-sensitive people) and ADHD. In early sessions we will explore your needs and preferences (for example communication style) and I will work to help you feel as safe as possible within therapy.
My approach is consent-led and trauma-informed.
We can work towards releasing some of the thoughts that haunt you, finding more motivation or energy for the people and projects you choose to focus on.
Depending on what works for you we may work with metaphor or visual imagery, or notice how you hold things in your body. We may also tune in to where your beliefs about yourself and the world sit in relation to each other.
My first session
I understand that finding the right therapist can be daunting. I offer a free 20-minute call so you can ask any questions you may have and get a sense of whether I, and my approach, may suit you. You can email me to book. There is no commitment to start therapy with me: this is a chat about what might be helpful for you.
