About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Mary, an experienced and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Accredited counsellor, and I operate my private practice called ME Therapy. I understand that the prospect of engaging in counselling may appear intimidating, but it serves as the vital first step towards instigating positive change in your life.

My practice encompasses both adults and teenagers (aged 16 years and above), addressing a wide spectrum of concerns including anxiety, anger, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and low self-esteem. Additionally, I have undertaken specialised training and have experience of working with individuals following a traumatic event or events, including cases resulting in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD).

I also have extensive experience in supporting survivors of sexual assault and abuse. Over the course of four years, I was a Volunteer Counsellor at the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Sexual Assault and Abuse Support Service, where I also assumed the role of Counselling Co-Ordinator.

As a counsellor, my approach is characterised by genuine care, empathy, and a non-judgmental disposition. I offer a relaxed environment where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings. While I primarily work from a person-centered foundation, I integrate other theoretical approaches such as Trauma Informed Practice and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to ensure that clients receive the most effective therapy tailored to their unique circumstances.

I also offer the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), which is is a neuroscience-based intervention that aims to support clients in achieving emotional regulation, improved social engagement, and better stress management. For further information, please get in touch.

Practice description

Upon receiving your inquiry, I offer an initial complimentary phone call or online conversation, providing you with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have while allowing me to gain some insight into your unique situation. This initial interaction serves as a chance for us to establish a connection and determine if we are a good fit.

Within the therapeutic space, you can expect a safe, non-judgmental environment where you are free to discuss any topic. It is through this process that clients often find clarity and begin to navigate their lives with improved coping mechanisms, regardless of the challenges they may face. I firmly believe that a strong therapeutic relationship acts as a catalyst for change, fostering a heightened sense of well-being and positivity.

I offer both short-term and long-term counselling options, providing flexibility to accommodate your needs. Sessions can be conducted either in person or online, depending on your preference and circumstances.

My first session

I empathise with the challenges that come with acknowledging the need for support and taking the step to seek counselling. I fully recognise and respect the potential apprehensions clients may have during this process. In our initial session, my priority is to address any concerns or worries you may have about our therapeutic relationship. I will ensure that all your questions are answered, providing clarity and reassurance.

During this session, we will discuss the terms of our working agreement, which covers important aspects such as confidentiality and privacy policies. It is crucial to establish a safe and confidential space for our work together. Additionally, I will ask you some questions about yourself, enabling us to gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique situation and circumstances. This will allow us to tailor the support provided to best meet your specific needs.
