About me and my therapy practice
I have come to this profession later, retraining from a previous successful career in IT Technology, after a life changing experiences in my life journey. I understand the struggles a complex childhood brings into adulthood (Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs). I understand how relationships seem to fall apart, sometimes the ending creeping up unexpectedly. I have experienced the sudden lost of someone, the confusion, rejection the loneliness this can bring. There are times when you logically look at your life, you wonder why are you not happy, is there something wrong? The times that no matter what you say, think feel or try, either are never enough, wrong, or just leave you feeling helpless. I am here for you!
I have experience working with anxiety, trauma, overwhelming emotions, relationship issues, low self-esteem and self-worth, addiction, abuse, sexual and substance. Understanding the impact this can have on the individual and their families and friends, I am a member of AMCAMH (The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health).
I have worked with male and female clients as well as LGBT+ clients, so I am GSRD compliant, working through relationship issues, depression, anxiety and low self-esteem and sexuality.
Did you know it is OK, not to be OK? right now, and there are times you need someone who listens, I don't give advice, I work to empower you to work through life's challenges whether it's family, relationships, personal, work-related there are times we all need someone to support and work with to face whatever challenges you are facing.
Relationship struggling? can't talk to each other without one of you becoming angry, or are you at a crossroads in your life and you need someone to listen, work with you.
You may be trying to work out your sexuality and have nowhere to discuss learn and understand, I am here for you
Whatever is worrying you there is someone that can listen and work with you, I would like to be that person.
Practice description
I have my own therapy room at my home. I offer a hot drink of tea or coffee or cold drink, sometimes give you a moment to think of what is being said whilst sipping your drink
I work with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Attachment theory and Transactional Analysis. I use psychopathology where needed if that enables you to understand why you behave the way you do and we work together to understand what change if any is necessary for you to feel happier.
I do give homework where appropriate, sometimes its further reading on a subject area we may be working on. I offer initially a document that you can indicate how you would like me as your therapist to work with you as there is no one fit all solution here. I am an integrative Therapist, which means I use CBT TA, interventions homework etc to empower you to understand and decide what if anything you want to change.
I dont give advice, but I will work with you on options you may have to consider and again empower you to reach the decision.
We explore your self-esteem and worth, understanding how you are where you are, we look at Early Maladaptive Scenarios where we learn how to survive unhappy times from childhood, adolescence to adulthood as well as common unhelpful thinking habits you may have.
I work with warmth, humour and explain how theory pertains to your behaviours so you understand the why and the what, and then explore with you the how changes can be made to feel happier and confident in how you emotionality regulate
My first session
The first session we do some admin, the contract, the therapy personalisation form, and I use a CORE10 for each session to take a snap shot of how the week leading up to the session has been. We talk about confidentiality and you receive the first of my handouts the Emotional Chart and Emotional Regulation, which helps understand what state we can be any time with emotions.
You also have a cuppa of choice often helps ease the anxiety of working with a therapist.
My goal is working with you in an environment that you feel is a safe haven for you to explore what is worrying you.
