About me and my therapy practice
Feeling disrupted and disconnected from your ‘normal’ self is so uncomfortable. Our system seeks balance and when we don’t feel we can achieve this with our usual strategies and our own resources seem stretched, a therapist can be useful.
As a qualified and experienced MÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I work with young people and parents. Most of my work has been with neurodivergent people or people who have suffered traumatic relational experiences. Clients who have unresolved trauma endure dysregulating symptoms. These emotions are usually accompanied by various behavioural patterns.
Young people are faced with so many challenges. They can struggle with feeling lost, anxious, angry, depressed etc... They can shut down and become uncommunicative. Or they act out their struggles with new habits and behaviours which leads you and them to be in conflict. Neurodivergent persons can endure similar issues from navigating a world that is overwhelming or they are misunderstood and struggle to cope with the expectations.
Parents can find this enormously challenging to deal with, feeling angry or depressed and highly anxious. They can enter into a blame and shame culture which leads to being in conflict or stuck. Exploration and understanding of yourself, your child and the relationship are key to becoming unstuck and enable families to thrive.
I have sound knowledge of child and young adult development including adverse childhood experiences. I also understand a parent’s accompanying journey. My understanding theoretically, practically and personally allows me to be able to sit person to person, providing a space where we can look into what's happening and experience resolution.
My approach supports genuine relationships with your children. It enables clients to embrace the complexity in their relationships and deal with adversity. Everyone is different so I respect and value each individual, their unique circumstances, background and culture.
Practice description
Primarily, my focus has been on attachment and the absolute necessity of a non judgemental, congruent and empathetic relationship. I create a warm space where clients feel safe enough to explore their experiences and feelings. I work from a person centred perspective, listening and exploring what’s going on in their lives and how they are feeling.
By supporting parents and carers to become emotionally engaged and approach their child with curiosity, I enable them to recognise that the young person’s behaviour is a form of communication of how they are feeling. We work on areas of tension, disappointments, griefs, depressions and intrusive thoughts.
Parents can learn to self regulate and deal with their own anxieties putting them in a strong position to support their children.
I work with young adults (16+), adults and parents.
I hold a Diplomas in:
CPCAB Degree Level 6 in Trauma Counselling
CPCAB Level 4 in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Children and Young Person Counselling
Advanced DBS certificate.
Insurance HIS82808
As well as my private practice, I work with local charities including a young persons agency. I have worked with young people in various roles for over 14 years.
My first session
Finding a counsellor can be a daunting process. The counselling relationship is collaborative and it’s important that you feel comfortable with me. We can have an initial chat on the telephone before our first meeting. We can gain a sense of if it feels right for us to work together. I can explain how I work and answer any questions you may have. We would talk about what you would like to gain from the therapy and any particular areas you would like to focus on. We can then arrange to meet face to face for a consultation.
If you decide to continue, appointments are once a week for 50 minutes.
How many sessions?
Everyone is different, some people will require a limited number of sessions, others longer term work which can be open ended. During our initial meeting we can decide together what will be best for you.
