About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and welcome. I understand that starting this process may feel daunting, but I want to assure you that this is a warm, safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you will be heard. It's a place for you to explore and reflect on the underlying issues that may have been affecting you.

My name is Bilkan Kilicer, and I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist. This means I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches to best support your individual needs and concerns. . As an integrative psychotherapist, I blend various therapeutic approaches to tailor my practice to each of your needs. I draw from techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), where I address negative though patterns and behaviors such as anxiety, to psychodynamic therapy, where we explore unconscious processes and past experiences. I also use humanistic methods, where we will emphasize on personal growth and self-fulfillment, to transactional analysis where I examine social transactions and communications patterns to understand and improve interactions.

My goal is to provide a safe trusting and non – judgmental environment, holistic, client-centered experience that supports your emotional well-being and personal growth, facilitating positive change, by working towards your goals, and improving coping strategies. Through a combination of these methods, I help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, aiming to foster healing, insight, and resilience.

When should you start therapy?

Therapy isn't just for times of crisis or when you're at a breaking point. It's also valuable when you want to learn more about yourself, overcome barriers that have kept you from enjoying life or feeling like yourself, and understand how different experiences have shaped you. It can help when you're seeking healthier relationships, or simply when you need someone to talk to about personal matters without fear of judgement.

Practice description

Experience

I have previously worked with BCU Life Skills, providing counselling to men and women who are unemployed or on low incomes in the Borough of Bexley. Many of these individuals faced complex issues such as stress, suicidal thoughts, depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, trauma, chronic illnesses, and disabilities.

In addition, my experience as a teaching assistant in a special needs school has given me invaluable skills directly related to counselling. Supporting students with special needs required active listening, clear communication, and attentiveness to non-verbal cues—all of which are crucial in counselling. Being attuned to emotions and behaviors enables me to provide effective support.

I also have a strong interest in working with adolescents, as this is a critical stage in their development. Teenagers often face challenges such as identity formation, peer pressure, academic stress, and family dynamics, and I aim to support them as they navigate these social and psychological hurdles.

More importantly, it’s an opportunity for you to get a sense of whether we’re a good fit for working together, and from there, we can discuss the next steps forward
