About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and experienced psychological therapist and counsellor trained in person-centred therapy. I am highly trained in existentialism and phenomenology and incorporate these into my psychotherapeutic approach, as well as employing some elements of cognitive behavioural therapy and psychoanalysis. These approaches are employed in all forms of therapy I provide, whether you prefer to work online, outside in nature-based therapy or by phone. I aim to provide a caring, empathetic and non-judgemental environment in which people can discuss and think through issues concerning them.
With Person-Centred Therapy, we focus on your own inner wisdom in finding and responding to various aspects of psychological distress and concern. Through Existential and Phenomenological Therapy, I aim to provide a space in which you can discern truth in your life and discern values that you can claim as your own. Existential and Phenomenological Therapy is particularly useful in addressing questions of identity and senses of self, LGBT+ issues, terminal illness and bereavement, generalised anxiety, and feelings of meaninglessness and angst. Faith-Based Therapy provides a space in which to explore various aspects of psychological distress within your own sense of spirituality and/or faith. Engaging in Nature-Based Therapy outdoors allows for opportunities to blend body movement with thought process to explore and address emotional and psychological issues in a holistic way. And Acceptance Commitment Therapy aims to identify causes of psychological distress that cannot be undone or changed, but by accepting these things as part of each person's own personal history it is possible commit to taking responsibility for the future which has yet to be determined. ACT is particularly useful in addressing issues of historical abuse, rape, and post-traumatic stress.

Session Information
Psychological therapy and counselling sessions may be conducted online, by telephone or outside in the natural environment, depending on client preference.
Generally, psychotherapy and counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and cost £60 (paid in advance by bank transfer). Alternative models to session length are being considered, especially for various forms of eco-therapy (see below).
Financial concerns should not be a barrier to obtaining appropriate emotional and psychological support. As such, concessions are available.
Sessions can be cancelled with a minimum of 48 hours notice without incurring a fee.
Online Video Sessions
Video sessions are conducted online using Zoom video conferencing. Using a private office, all aspects of our session are conducted in complete confidence. Prior to our initial session an email is sent to you with a link to enter the video session.
In Nature Therapy Sessions
A recent addition to therapeutic sessions, I now provide therapy with a more dynamic and interactive approach by getting outside and walking in nature. These sessions take place in rural Perthshire in the areas between Crieff and St. Fillans.
Telephone Sessions
Telephone sessions are conducted using a dedicated phone, called from a private and confidential space so that no aspects of the conversation can be overheard. You will receive a call at our scheduled appointment time and it is important that you have a safe and confidential place to talk. Some clients use a private room or office, some like to go for a walk and some like to sit in their car. Whatever works for you and feels safe and confidential.
My first session
All sessions begin the same as directed by you. With Person-Centred Therapy, we begin with the understanding that you are the best person to determine what is right for you and I as the therapist am a companion along the journey to discovering your own sense of self. It does not seek to diagnose or anticipate what the issues may be, what the sources of distress are, or how best to address these. Rather, it provides a space in which you can explore and discover these for yourself. Using an Existential and Phenomenological approach, the starting point is recognising the uniqueness of the human experience and understanding that each person sees and experiences the world in their own way, we begin with the understanding that no one can see and experience the world in the same exact way as you do. We each try to understand and identify meaning in our lives and to find our own sense of purpose. Clients for whom religious faith or beliefs have had a central impact on their lives, I seek to open a space in which to explore various aspects of psychological distress within your own sense of spirituality and/or belief. Nature-Based Therapy is conducted outdoors. Often people find it difficult to engage sitting in one place for too long or talking with someone in a formal therapeutic setting, while walking together and discussing issues in a more causal context may feel more natural. Many young people find this more informal approach to be less daunting, and those experiencing issues with hyperactivity or maintaining attention often find the dynamic nature of being outside walking to be more comfortable and less restrictive. The same approaches are used but in a more dynamic context, holistically incorporating physical activity as part of the psychotherapeutic process.
