About me and my therapy practice
Taking good care of our psychological and emotional health is equally as important as taking good care of our physical health. Yet how often do we allow ourselves the time and space we deserve, to fully explore what is going on for us emotionally?
As a fully qualified and experienced Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I aim to provide a safe and welcoming space, in which you have the opportunity to explore, and reflect on, your personal experiences and challenges, and the unique way in which they impact your life, freeing you to move towards true emotional and psychological fitness.
I work with adults and families, and have both a passion, and specialist training, to work therapeutically with children of all ages, from the very young, to teens and young adults, incorporating Play and Creative Arts Therapy when appropriate.
My experience includes several years working as a Counsellor for the NSPCC’s ‘Childline’, as well as Counselling and Mentoring within various schools and charities, and working with survivors of domestic violence. I have supported both adults and children through a diverse range of issues, including low mood, anxiety and depression; school pressures and exam stress; the effects of bullying at school, at home, or in the workplace; problems around eating; relationship difficulties; sexual and gender identity questioning; illness, loss and bereavement; difficulties in expressing emotions; substance abuse; self-harm; suicidal thoughts; healthy anger expression; and trauma associated with sexual abuse, neglect and domestic violence.
Please feel free to check out my website (DiverseLives.co.uk) or give me a call for an informal chat (Tel: 07907 771670).
Practice description
When life's challenges begin to cause distress, or you're feeling stuck in a pattern of behaviour that isn't working for you, Person-Centred Therapy can help you to make sense of your unique challenges, empowering you to move beyond them.
The Person-Centred Approach places the expertise with the client; you are the expert on you, and you are the expert on how the challenges you face affect you. As such, both research and experience tell us that with the support of an accepting and empathic therapist, you can become the expert on finding the best way to move forward towards leading your best life.
This type of therapy is flexible, and led by you. You decide how to use the therapy space, and what feels most important to talk about during each session; you dictate the pace of sessions; and ultimately you decide when you feel ready to either take a break from, or finish therapy; so the work can be short or long-term.
And why wait until you feel overwhelmed to seek support? Person-Centred Therapy can also be hugely beneficial as a preventative measure for all ages, helping you to find your true, authentic self, and to maintain positive mental and emotional well-being.
I hold both a Batchelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy, and as a member of both The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and the British Psychological Society, I am committed to working to their strict ethical standards.
I’m currently offering telephone and online counselling.
My first session
For some people, starting therapy can feel exciting and energizing, but I recognise that for many, both children and adults alike, the idea of seeking therapy can feel frightening or overwhelming, and I understand the importance of finding a therapist that you feel comfortable working with and that you feel able to share your feelings and thoughts with.
So to help you, or your child, get a sense of me, and of how I work, and to enable you to make a more informed choice, I offer a free, first session for around 30 minutes. This will give you the opportunity to talk through any questions you might have, and decide if you would like us to continue working together.
Our first full session together will be your opportunity to continue the conversation about what has brought you to therapy, at your own pace, and in a warm and accepting environment.
I aim to provide a space where you feel safe to relax and take time for yourself, enabling you to work through whatever it is that you have on your mind at that time.
