About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, I'm a qualified Psychosynthesis therapist in private practice working both online and face to face. I've helped many people to successfully navigate, heal and and make sense of; anxiety, depression, loss and grief - either through bereavement or the ending of significant relationships, difficult relationship dynamics and self-esteem issues, frustration, anger and rage and procrastination or self-sabotaging behaviours, among others.
I have also done a lot of work helping clients to create healthier and more productive daily routines which involves working with the 'will' and anything that may be blocking it.
I create an atmosphere of safety, warmth, empathy and acceptance when I work with clients. I understand that feeling truly listened to, and understood, is an important part of good counselling. Western cultures are currently undergoing enormous challenges, and this is creating a background anxiety and uncertainty that can feel difficult to process.
It can be a profound experience for someone when they take the risk of communicating something to me that they may not have said to anyone before, and discover that it was safe for them to do so and nothing bad happened.
Psychosynthesis works with the personal and the transpersonal/spiritual, it takes a holistic view of who we are. It’s a broad and inclusive system which has many different techniques and approaches to work with the personal and transpersonal in ways that can be tailored to you and your needs, as the unique human being that you are.

If you are coming to counselling having experienced wounding, pain, trauma, or loss, it would be quite normal for you to become emotional while we work together. I welcome the free expression and release of emotions.
I have found this to be a very important aspect of helpful therapy; to help someone feel and express their emotions, however difficult they may be, while providing a safe and loving container for this process to unfold in.
Psychosynthesis is a very open and adaptable system, so I sometimes use ideas or techniques from other therapeutic systems, depending on what your needs may be.
These include; CBT, Existential Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, breathing and meditation practices, body-based awareness techniques and others.
I feel it’s important, at least in long term work, to explore our childhood and come to understand how our early experience, with and around our parents or primary caregivers, has a huge impact on the people we come to be in our adult lives.
Understanding how early experience can lead to the creation of a 'survival personality', which we adopt and operate from later on in life, can bring deep insight. This insight can allow us to make new choices which lead to a happier and more fulfilling life.
It’s also normally very helpful, at some point at least, to work with our ‘sub-personalities’ in Psychosynthesis therapy. These are the smaller sub-selves, or ‘parts’ of us, that make up the totality of who we are.
In a counselling session there are other techniques that I may use, if appropriate. These include; dialogue and enquiry, emotional release and catharsis, short meditations, guided visualisations and imagery, creative writing and drawing, role-playing situations, psycho-educational work and many more.
My first session
If we haven’t worked together before, then our first session together would be an ‘assessment’ session. This is fairly normal procedure when a therapist and client first meet. I would want to know what has brought you to counselling, what you would like to get from it and whether you have any previous experience with other therapists or counsellors.
After this I would need to ask a few basic questions to find out more about your background, in terms of childhood, relationship with family members and important life experiences. I would also normally ask some questions to find out more about your current lifestyle.
I may take some brief notes during this session and after subsequent sessions; any notes I take are always stored in a secure, locked location. You would also be welcome to ask me any questions you may have. This is usually more than enough for an initial assessment.
Ultimately however, the session is yours and we can address whatever issues feel more relevant to you at that time.
After this first session we would both have some time to think about whether we feel that it is appropriate and suitable for us to work together. I would contact you to have this conversation with you and if we decide we do want to work together then I would make arrangements with you for our second session.
Please bear in mind, that for you to get a sense of what counselling is and the work that it requires, I would suggest that you commit to at least six sessions with me, before deciding again whether you would like to continue the work. This is enough time for you to derive some therapeutic benefit from the work and also have a sense of what would be possible with longer-term work.
