About me and my therapy practice
I have over 14 years counselling experience working within Aberdeen charities, NHS providers and in my own private practice. I specialise in trauma recovery, childhood abuse and neglect although I am open to work with any issue.
I work with individual youths and adults, couples and small family groups. I am also a Clinical Supervisor in training.
Practice description
I use a person-centred approach in my practice. Life often takes us out of balance and harmony, sometimes we struggle to find that peaceful place that is within us all. It can be helpful to have someone by your side to provide the right support so you can explore issues safely and in your own way. As a person-centred counsellor I believe we can all find our way forward and grow through even the most challenging experiences.
My first session
In a first session you can expect to find I will aim to explain as clearly as possible the service I am offering and the person-centred approach I use in therapy, giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
I will clarify the professional nature of the counsellor/client relationship and explain the boundaries and limitations of the service I provide.
Together we will complete an informal assessment involving me asking questions such as: Why are you seeking counselling? What is your current situation and personal history? What symptoms are you experiencing? This enables us to explore whether counselling is right for you and whether you would like to talk with me again as it is very important you find the right counsellor for you.
I will provide information related to confidentiality, data protection and discuss dates/times of sessions and also how and when I can be contacted.
Together we will discuss and and sign an agreement for our work together should you wish to proceed with counselling.
