About me and my therapy practice

Do you need someone to talk to? You鈥檙e welcome here. As a person-centred counsellor, I can help you understand your experience from your own point of view and create a relationship where you feel seen and learn to be more in touch with yourself and others. Ask about my new client offer.

You can decide what we talk about and we will go at your pace.

How I Can Help

When I hit a rough period in my life, I needed to learn skills to better manage my own pain and shape the life I wanted going forward. My approach brings together Person-centred and Experiential practice, so you can feel your experience change.

I work with clients with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression and trauma, family conflict, divorce, singleness, work related issues, stress and identity, and climate anxiety. I have specialist training in bereavement and have supported women who self-harm.

In a client's words: 鈥淚 highly recommend Catherine to anyone considering a counsellor to support them through difficulties 鈥 she is accepting, understanding, and knowledgeable, and offers a warm and safe counselling experience鈥 - J.M.

Practice description

My Background and Life Experience

Person-Centred counselling is all about coming alongside you in solidarity. With a background in Social Anthropology, I spent years in UK, Europe, Africa, and Asia, seeking to understand the human condition, and be in solidarity with people鈥檚 suffering. I value a person-centred approach to learning from life, having home-educated my children. My life has been inspired by Faith Traditions, Mindfulness, Focusing, Enneagram of Personality, Non-Violent Communication and Child-Led Education.

My life experience gives me particular insights into issues of identity, culture, and spirituality, as well as relationships, family and children.

How I can Help

I use an embodied approach because understanding what our body is telling us, can help make sure we are with the thing that really needs our attention. We might check in with your bodily 鈥榝elt sense鈥 of situations in your life so that we can gently listen to your body鈥檚 wisdom and let this guide your decisions.

I鈥檝e seen my clients become more in touch with their own sense of a situation, more accepting of themselves and their experience, and more self-determined and empowered.

Online Counselling

Zoom or phone counselling makes therapy more accessible for people with busy lives, or limited accessibility, giving you flexibility over where and how your counselling takes place, with the benefits of reduced travel time and the convenience of being in your own space. Being able to see me gives you more of the benefits you get from in-person counselling but with the convenience of online therapy.

My first session

Initial Conversation

When you're ready to start, let's arrange a free 30-minute initial Zoom or phone call. Let me know whether you鈥檇 like to do this by 'phone or Zoom and a range of times you鈥檙e available, and I will confirm a time with you.

You will be able to ask questions and tell me why you鈥檇 like to come to counselling now. I will go through my Counselling Agreement with you and tell you more about how I work. We can then see whether we are suited and if so, arrange a time to begin.

What to Expect in Counselling

You may want to decide in advance what to bring, or we can work with whatever is alive for you at the time. If you need a little help to get started, I can ask you some questions, or if needed, I can help you pause and take stock, so we can really hear what needs our attention.

The beginning phase of counselling is often about us getting to know each other and building a trusting relationship where you feel safe to explore aspects of your life that don鈥檛 always feel easy.
