About me and my therapy practice
Finding the right therapist can be daunting. You may be wondering what the sessions will be like and whether you will feel comfortable opening up and talking about your concerns. Perhaps you are feeling anxious or depressed, you may have lost someone close to you or suffering from stress at work. Relationship issues or past trauma could be preventing you from living the life you want to lead. There are countless reasons you could be seeking therapy at this time and my aim is to offer a safe, accepting and non-judgmental space where we can explore whatever is troubling you. We are all unique and I welcome diversity of gender, sexuality, race and culture.
Practice description
As a person-centred therapist I believe that individuals are able to find their own solutions and that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to bring my knowledge and skills to help facilitate the change you are looking for. Our work together will be collaborative, we will go at your pace and my aim is to create a trusting relationship where you feel able to express your difficulties. A new perspective in a supportive environment can be empowering and greater self-awareness can enable you to make the right choices for you. The therapeutic relationship is central to successful therapy and I will do my best to relate to you in a trusting and genuine way. I strongly believe that therapy can be hugely beneficial, healing and transformative.
I have worked in a variety of settings, including charities, counselling agencies and private practice. My work with an Employee Assistance Programme covered a wide range of themes including anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I have worked extensively with bereavement and loss as well as trauma and addiction. Other issues include abuse, anger management, eating disorders, health related issues, identity issues, infertility, pregnancy related issues, self-esteem, self-harm, spirituality, stress and work-related issues.
I am based at the Life Academy Wellbeing Centre and I work face to face from their premises in Morningside.
My first session
Sessions last for one hour and cost £50. I offer the first session for a reduced fee of £25. We will use this time to discuss your reasons for seeking counselling and you can ask me any questions you may have. At the end of this session, we can discuss your experience and whether we feel we could work together. You may want to arrange regular appointments, or you may want to go home and reflect. There will be no pressure regarding this. I look forward to meeting you if you choose to contact me.
