About me and my therapy practice

I am a person centred integrative counsellor with specialist training in bereavement and loss of meaning. I will support you in looking at any area of your life that is difficult to understand or manage, i.e. anxiety, depression, and helping you in building new perspectives and resilience. I am particularly interested in the very meaning of life as a human being (existentialism) and looking at this aspect can often help people to see what may be holding them back from moving in the direction they wish, and becoming the person they want to be. I will often suggest resources to build your access to ongoing information and support.

Practice description

I will support you in exploring how you feel about your own life and how you relate to others, supporting you in unravelling key issues and events that have led to where you are today, for instance, trauma or self doubt. Sometimes we 'forget' past experiences, and with some exploration it may become clearer what has led you to develop a mindset that is not serving you well. This can become a springboard which helps you gain new, more helpful perspectives.

I work in a person centred way, meaning you choose what you want to focus on and I will support you in threading together the most effective way to progress. I integrate different therapy styles with the aim of finding what will support you in finding new meaning and advancing from your own history into a life you choose.

I work with teenagers and am aware of many of the pressures placed upon our young people at this time, i.e. social media, climate change.

I will point you to resources, such as books/podcasts, techniques and strategies, to support you in building resilience for your mental wellbeing. This will also give you the ability to keep the work going when you leave counselling.

I offer a safe and confidential space for you to speak about anything you want to raise, with no fear of judgement, just an openness to understanding how life is for you right now, and how you want it to look moving forward.

As well as private practice, I work in the NHS as a staff counsellor. I have volunteered with Cruse Bereavement, where I trained in grief work. I have worked in other charities offering counselling to a wide range of people (nationality, age, gender) with a wide range of presenting issues.

I offer a free up to 20 minute session via phone or zoom to enable you to meet me and see if you think I am the 'right fit' for you.

My first session

Our first session will enable you to share how you are feeling, what is troubling you, and what you hope to gain from counselling.  It will give you the opportunity to see if you would like to work with me.

I am able to offer face to face at my premises, and I have recently started walking therapy which is popular.  I also work online (zoom, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype).
