About me and my therapy practice
I am a registered psychotherapist, integrative counsellor and clinical supervisor with an established experience in client work, supervising qualified counsellors and trainees, conducting lectures, seminars and workshops and developing curricula, learning resources and assessments.
As a psychotherapist, I am guided by integrative framework in the provision of holistic approach to clients’ changing needs. I believe that empathic listening, with a provision of trust and respect, is an effective way to establish therapeutic relationships.
My supervisory approach is influenced by the seven-eyed model of Hawkins and Shohet (2006) with a focus on the supervision process and supervisee’s development.
As a lecturer, I teach and develop counselling and psychology courses from Diploma to the Degree levels. My teaching and training pedagogy includes guided inter-dependent learning that aims to develop investigative skills, critical thinking and skills and theory application to practice.
Practice description
Counselling will occur only at the agreed mode of session and/or location (i.e., face-to-face or online, via Zoom). Each session is scheduled before hand, where you and I should agree. Each session will last for 45-50 minutes as scheduled.
I have limited space in my practice. Kindly note my availability listed below:
Mon - 15.30-17.30
Wed - 09.00-17.00 / 18.00-21.00
Fri - 16.00-21.00
My first session
I refer the 1st session as a 'consultation' that aims to set a safe and trusting environment to discuss your expectations from the counselling process and clarify your idea of counselling and the help you expect from me. Knowing what to expect during your consultation can help you feel more prepared.
I usually start with getting to know each other with the aim to get an idea of how we proceed in the counselling work. Essential process in the consultation is to assess whether there is a good fit for your needs, and going over what you want to accomplish in counselling.
It is equally important to come to an agreement on the length of your session, methods to be employed, scope and limits of our work and ins and outs of confidentiality.
The succeeding sessions will be more therapeutic in nature, for example, we may explore a specific symptom, problem, or past trauma you mentioned in the intake session.
