About me and my therapy practice

I offer a lower cost, jargon free, counselling service in Sheffield. I work a varied pattern to fit your schedule including evening, weekend and daytime appointments accessible both face to face and online.

Clients I work with are usually feeling some of the following - depressed, listless, anxious, stressed, down in the dumps, unable to achieve their full potential or in need of a place where they can speak their mind and share how they are feeling. They may have experienced trauma, low self confidence, a loss of somebody important, a loss of a job, physical abuse, emotional abuse or a life altering experience.

Practice description

I aim to offer my clients a calm, gentle and welcoming space where they feel safe to express themselves. Bringing difficult feelings to counselling can feel overwhelming and it can take time for you to feel comfortable doing this, there is no rush. We will work at a pace which suits you and I will listen in a non-judgemental, supportive, and respectful way.

As an Integrative therapist I have experience working with elements of different therapeutic models. The benefit of this is that I can blend techniques to find a way of working which is helpful to you. I believe that our mind, bodies, and feelings are linked and will therefore work in a holistic way offering tools such as grounding and breathing techniques where I feel they may help. Sometimes clients find it helpful to work in the here and now, right down to the way in which we interact in the therapy session. Other times it is helpful to look back to past experiences to examine what affect they have had on us and how they might be impacting our life in the present. There may be opportunity for us to work creatively if you find working in a more abstract way helpful.

At the core of my practice is the belief that you are the expert on you even when you might not feel like it. Therefore, I will not tell you what to do but rather support you through your journey of self-exploration. By the time we end therapy it is my hope that you feel more able to face day to day life in a more confident and self-compassionate way.

My first session

Before our first session I will send you some further information about the way that I work which may help you decide if counselling with me sounds right for you.

Before our first session I will offer you a brief phonecall to give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and for you to get a sense of whether or not we might work well together. If you prefer not to speak on the phone I will send you a short questionaire for you to complete which will allow me to get an idea of some of the things you may like to work on, and to ensure that my skills and experience compliment what you are looking for.
