About me and my therapy practice
As is often said, 'Life is Difficult', sometimes very difficult. Yet, talking about these difficulties can feel out of reach - or maybe not for us. I hope to help this process. As a qualified, registered, and accredited counsellor, I offer a safe and confidential environment where these matters can be faced.
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ describes the attainment of accreditation as "the achievement of high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling and psychotherapy."
In short, I seek to provide a place where clients feel truly heard as well as supported.
Indeed, clients feedback that I am easy to talk to, as well as a good listener, but I am also active in helping them make the progress they desire.
In addition to my private work, and work within a mental health agency, I have substantial experience as a volunteer counsellor in various agencies, including Sanctuary House Men’s Shelter, and two organisations where I was the founder of the service, namely; The Royal British Legion (counsellor to ex-services) and The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (staff counsellor).
This experience has exposed me to a wide variety of life’s difficulties, with clients of all sexes, ages, sexualities, religions and nationalities, to name but a few differences.
Every person is welcome.
During my professional career I have also been a Chartered Surveyor (RICS). Combined, my experience within both Surveying and Counselling have exposed me to a wide variety of people and circumstances. But whatever role I provide, I always seek to deliver a professional service.
Sessions are 50mins in length. The main therapy is 45 mins with the final five mins to consider the work, themes that have emerged for future consideration, and generally wrap up the session.
There is no minimum number of sessions, and no obligation to continue. The regularity of the sessions is up to the client.
Practice description
Research tells us that one of the most important factors in achieving a positive outcome from therapy is having an effective relationship with the therapist.
Accordingly, a key aspect of my service is to provide the client with a safe and confidential environment - a place where life’s difficulties can be considered.
And at a pace that is comfortable with the client's wishes.
You won’t find me telling clients what to do, or not, rather we work together as a collaboration to both understand the problems and assess the solutions that may be available.
In terms of how I work, I am an Integrative Therapist.
The Integrative model means I have studied, and can use, various psychological schools of thought within our work. This allows me to use the most relevant aspects of multiple theories that may assist the client.
I am always delighted to explain more about how I work.
My first session
I call the first session a 'meet and greet', allowing you to meet me, ask questions, and for us to to initially explore the matters that brought you there.
I will gather some background details and information, but the tone of the session is more about you telling your story, rather than a data gathering.
There is no pressure, or obligation, to continue - that is wholly your choice.
