About me and my therapy practice
I'm Polly, a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ-accredited Psychotherapist, Counselor, and registered counsellor/member of COSCA. Working within their ethical framework .
Embarking on a journey towards inner peace and improved emotional resilience is not only possible, but also within your reach. Through my empathic, non-judgemental support, we can navigate your personal worries in a safe and accepting relationship. I understand that opening up can be challenging, but I strive to create an environment that is as comfortable and inviting as possible, where you can be truly heard and understood from your unique perspective
My expertise spans various areas, including bereavement and neurodiverse difficulties. I have honed my skills through additional training in children and young people's non-directive play therapy, and I am adept at providing online and telephone counselling. I work with a diverse range of clients, including individuals, couples, and children. My qualifications inclide a PDA, SCQF 11—Masters level qualification to work with Children and young people and a Person Centred Training certificate to work with couples/relationships. I have been in this field since 2012, transitioning from the oil and gas sector to pursue my passion for mental health care.
I have worked with many charitable organisations in the North East. I specialise in those affected by Cancer, bereavement work, and working with children and young people with neurodiverse difficulties. I have spent many years volunteering for an equality agency supporting those affected by discrimination or prejudice. I also have experience working as a university student counsellor and tutor in the university sector.
My private practice, Minds Matter Counselling, is based in Portlethen, on the outskirts of Aberdeen, and has free on-site parking. I'm happy to work with new, current, or previous clients in person, over the telephone, or online via Microsoft Teams or Zoom Video.
Practice description
My modality is Person-centred counselling. It was founded by the American psychologist Carl Rogers who believed that, given the right conditions, a person could reach their full potential and become their true self.
To help you achieve self-actualisation, as a person-centred therapist, I will offer the following:
unconditional positive regard (UPR) – accepting and valuing you
congruence - being honest and transparent in how I experience you and your world
empathic understanding – seeing your viewpoint in the way that you do.
When attending counselling sessions alongside me, I will encourage you to explore your difficulties throughout each session – the counselling is led by you and not directed by the counsellor.
My first session
My sessions last for 50 mins to an hour. I offer an initial session free of charge to explore the questions you may have about the therapeutic work you may want to partake in and the kind of therapy that might suit you, as well as take time to discover if we feel we are a good fit to be able to work together. Subsequent individual sessions are £60 and couples are £70; however, I do have a sliding scale that can be discussed. I work online over Zoom, MS Teams, telephone sessions or face-to-face.
