About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working 1-1 with young people, students and adults up into older generation and those undergoing palliative care. I use traditional talking therapy and have years of experience working in both creative and corporate arenas. I have undertaken training with Relate in couples counselling and improving relationships. Furthermore, I am trained in form of neurotherapy using Oldpain2go method which includes autorem/mindful exercise which can help with pain relief, anxiety and trauma.
Brief background - have worked in a clinical hospital setting and also in private practice. I have worked with clients from many different fields.
- work/university stress; relationship issues (marriages, friendships, partnerships); LGBTQ; low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger and stress and trauma. Suicide ideation/self harm. Have a sensitivity to the needs of clients who portray highly sensitive person (HSP) traits when life can be regularly overwhelming/experience noise sensitivity/visual overload/overstimulation and often feel exhausted/different for no obvious reason. Sensitive people gain from the influence of a good environment and deep self understanding. It can be a positive trait once understood.
In addition, I have quality experience of working with clients and families/children who have been diagnosed with cancer and other life changing illnesses. I am highly trained in bereavement work (this covers suicide, sudden loss, miscarriages and associated loss with abortions too) and also with trauma having been a victim support counsellor trained in assault on both male and females.
I currently support clients who have diagnosis of dyslexia, cognitive dyspraxia, autism and cerebal palsy Neurodiversity is a speciality.
Past experience is in the corporate sector and also with families in a music setting.
Practice description
I work 1-1 in private practice in a quiet peaceful confidential setting in Godalming, Surrey. I work Weekdays and am open for sessions from 7.30 am - 9.30 pm.
My first session
Prior to us talking, I will have given you some forms relating to our counselling session. The first session is often a good time to explore what is going on for you and what has brought you to counselling. Talking to a trained listener can help you process what could be worrying you. I have used therapy myself in the past and in training and also have a family so am empathetic to the process and to what life can throw at us. It is not about me giving answers, solutions and advice but about working together on you - processing past issues and finding ways to move forward.
