About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and registered Integrative Child Counsellor/Psychotherapist . I offer a range of therapeutic methods to support children and young people. With over 20 years experience of working with children and families in different professions, I understand the importance of receiving the acceptance provided in a therapeutic relationship as soon as possible. Without support our experiences in childhood can reverberate throughout our lives and possibly affect our resilience to overcome adversity.
I believe in offering children a variety of ways to express themselves when words may be too difficult for them. Through art, puppetry, sand tray work, music and many others, they can build their ability to manage their emotions and understand their worries. Through an accepting therapeutic relationship they can learn to feel safe, trust others and question their view of the world and the valuable part they play.
I often work with the family/carers to build their understanding of the young person and how they are presenting themselves. This can build the network of support the young person will access outside of the therapeutic sessions, however, confidentiality remains paramount for the child/young person.
My child friendly room offers a place were the child/young person can feel safe and relax. With an accepting and empathetic manner, engaging resources and the ability to really listen, the child can consider moving away from their anxieties and onto a happier place.
My first session
I often meet with the parent prior to any sessions. This can provide a wealth of valuable information and a clearer picture of the presenting concern. Then, often the first session would be with the child and the parent(s) if this is to be beneficial or if the child would like to meet with me prior to agreeing the sessions. There is no charge for the parent meeting or the introductory child meeting if sessions are then booked. However, if the decision is not to continue for any reason, then a fee of £25 would be payable.
