About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Jonathan and I work with a range of clients who want to understand and reduce feelings of anxiety, panic, and depression, or who may be struggling with aspects of their lives, past or present.
I've been in private practice since 2019 and I qualified at an NHS training institute accredited by the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ. The way we'll work is often a mix of:
- Practical stuff - understanding what's happening in the body and nervous system, and learning to manage that with simple techniques
- Understanding yourself - why this might be happening (often connected to past experiences) and working through that as necessary
- Emotional support - analysis and intellectual comprehension are great but often some healing and repair is required 'below the neck', which is something we can do through gentle, supportive exploration of your feelings and emotions
- Encouraging your autonomy - a somewhat existential approach involving you taking full responsibility for your choices from this point on, without judgement from me, and leading to increased acceptance of yourself.
(A more technical summary would be a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive and humanistic approaches, in an overarching relational framework.)
I don’t currently offer face to face sessions in Chislehurst, but there is encouraging data emerging supporting the effectiveness of video therapy and I would encourage you to consider it, since the cost is lower and it is often convenient.
Therapy and counselling is a wonderful opportunity to improve the quality of your life and how you feel. Change really is possible and I look forward to working with you.

Since the Covid-19 disruption I offer video call sessions over Zoom in addition to some face to face sessions. There is encouraging data emerging supporting the effectiveness of video therapy and I would encourage you to consider it, since the cost is lower and it is often convenient. My first session
Your first session will give you an opportunity to let me know a bit about what's going on. We'll also cover administrative things, you can obviously ask any questions you may have, and overall this is an opportunity for you to check that I'm the right counsellor for you. There's no obligation to continue, no minimum number of sessions.
