About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified and experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist. I work with a broad range of issues including anxiety and relationships, details of which are set out within this profile.

My aim is to help you gently discover and address the root of your problem, and not just deal with the symptoms.

**Regarding paying for therapy, I appreciate many are being affected by the Cost of Living Crisis. Please do feel you can talk to me about paying for sessions. A concessionary rate might be appropriate for you **

Practice description

ANXIETY:

By exploring together the events that trigger your uncomfortable feelings and sensations, and by unpicking some of your history, we have a chance to make sense of why you become fearful and unsettled.

It is not unusual to be experiencing persistent, difficult feelings and thoughts, and it is also not unusual to believe they must not be talked about, BUT it is in the process of talking and being listened to that we can arrive at a different perspective, we can cause a shift in our attitude and beliefs and we can discover that we have choices. We can become unstuck.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Our experiences can determine how we get along with friends, family, romantic partners, work colleagues and those we encounter in our every day lives. Difficulties can arise when:

- we have been treated unkindly and/or unfairly

- we are sensitive, and find it hard not to take things personally

- we fear rejection or abandonment

- we feel angry and sad

- we find it hard to talk about difficult topics- we feel envious or jealous

- we have been expected to be strong, successful and to cope on our own

- we dislike to, or are unable to show our feelings

- we fear upset and conflict, or think that it is impolite to disagree

- we feel depressed or stuck

I offer a space where you can let me know about any of the above, or anything else that is difficult for you.

When you talk with me I will use my professional skills to support you. A large part of this will simply be listening to you. You might not be used to talking and being listened to, and it can feel strange to start with, but it is in this togetherness that we have the potential to piece together an understanding of what is going on currently, and perhaps repeatedly, for you.

Experience and research shows that the process is effective at creating awareness, and it is awareness that leads to new thoughts and feelings which can mobilise new decisions and, ultimately, a shift away from the difficulties you are experiencing with others.

My first session

I do understand that you might feel unsure about having therapy, or about what is troubling you, so your first session with me will be an opportunity to explore what will be useful for you. You can find out whether I am someone you can talk to, and you can gain an idea of how we might work together.

Please know you may contact me in the strictest confidence with any questions or worries. My practice website will also provide you with more information: www.westlondontherapypractice.com.
