About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced, qualified counsellor based in York, with an MA in Counselling from York St John University. I have a humanistic approach, which means I work collaboratively with my clients as they seek to make sense of their lives and the world around them. I have worked with clients facing a wide range of challenges and issues, both on a short-term and long-term basis. Areas of focus include (but are not limited to) anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, family dynamics, bereavement, suicidal thoughts, abuse and trauma. I am experienced in working therapeutically with clients face-to-face, on the phone or online – clients choose what works best for them.

Practice description

Counselling is known as a talking therapy, and in its simplest terms that is exactly what it is. It offers a safe space for you to be heard, to explore whatever it is that has brought you to counselling and to find a way forward that is right for you. Sessions are usually weekly at the same time each week. In the first session we will agree how we are going to work together, which is known in counselling as contracting.

Face-to-face sessions are held in comfortable, confidential premises. I am currently working from two locations in York: Millers Yard on Gillygate and a venue on Micklegate, both of which are close to parking and easily accessible by public transport.
