About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor with person centred and humanistic ideals. I work in a beautiful, calming, therapeutic space, surrounded by trees and close to a running brook at my home in Minsterley, south of Shrewsbury. I also practice in schools and am available to work with organisations focussed on employees psychological health and wellbeing.
Qualifications
I hold a BSc Honours degree in Psychology, a Masters degree in Counselling and am a qualified teacher. I am also a Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
Training
I have had varied life experience and worked as a teacher, manager, counsellor, employment advisor for those with psychological and physical difficulties and an MHFA instructor. I collaborate with individuals and organisations to help recognise signs of mental health crises or ill health and to put strategies in place to help.
Practice
I take an eclectic approach to counselling. My work, both with adults and children, focuses on establishing the goals of therapy and using empathy, acceptance and genuineness to guide this process. I recognise the need for creative ways to promote an effective therapeutic relationship, especially when words to express feelings maybe difficult to find.
When you get in touch to discuss individual needs I offer an initial, 30 minute face to face consultation (without charge). All further sessions are 50 minutes in duration.
Counselling progress will be reviewed at an agreed time with the client; the length of therapy is very much determined by each person.
