About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified Integrative Humanistic Counsellor who is registered with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ (British Association Counselling and Psychotherapy). I hold a BA Hons and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I have also undertaken specialist training in counselling children and young people. I provide effective therapy for children, young people and adults.
I am passionate about the benefits that counselling can have for people. Through my work I have experienced how therapy can improve mental health and well being. As a qualified and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ ) my work is underpinned by their Ethical Framework which provides a robust framework for my counselling practice. I attend regular Clinical Supervision to safeguard my practice as well as professional development days to enhance my skills and maintain my professional standards.
Alongside my private practice, I work at a leading independent school in Oxford offering counselling to both students and staff. Prior to this I worked in the NHS for more than 20 years
I will offer you a safe, confidential and nurturing space, where you can get a different perspective on whatever you choose to bring. Together, we can explore any challenges you may be facing, to allow you to make positive changes in your life. People come to counselling for a variety of reasons but the need to be heard and understood is universal. I can offer you a non-judgemental space where this will be achieved. At the centre of our therapy will always be our relationship. A trusting relationship is the essence of successful therapy.
Practice description
It is not my place to offer you advice or judge you. I am here to support you whilst you discover your own way through your current difficulties. Counselling can be an exploration of your life, the patterns you see in it, and how you came to be who, and, where you are. Whatever you wish to share, I will give you the time and space to do so.
I am happy to offer short or long term work depending on your needs. Sometimes having a time limit can help to keep people focused, to enable positive changes in their lives.
Other times, particularly when difficulties have been present for a long time, or when a person is experiencing a number of different problems, having the ‘pressure’ of a predetermined ending can be unhelpful. Because you are an individual, I tailor my support to your specific needs.
Being an Integrative Humanistic Counsellor, my work is influenced by three theories: Person centred therapy, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I am happy to answer any questions you may have relating to this when we meet.
My first session
Our initial contact will normally be via email or telephone. From here we can arrange to meet in person or online. In this first meeting we will spend time getting to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. This session will also include a brief assessment and some paperwork will be shared with you. If you decide to continue with regular sessions together, we can agree on a day / time to meet weekly Each session lasts 50 minutes.
