About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor who can offer support to adults and young people through various life struggles and challenges including anxiety and depression, bereavement, trauma, relationship issues or low self esteem. I have a friendly and approachable demeanour that will put you at ease, to gently and respectfully explore your concerns with warmth and understanding.
My counselling approach holds the individual's needs at the heart of the work, providing a confidential space to explore difficulties or challenges that life inevitably throws at us all, at one time or another.
Together we can consider your situation to understand in detail the subtleties of your thoughts and feelings in an accepting, respectful and non judgmental manner. The benefit of being heard, validated and really seen can ease emotional turmoil making way for a clearer perspective and highlighting possibilities. Spending time nurturing and harnessing inner strength and resilience will help you manage your emotions and challenges more confidently, enhancing wellbeing.
My training is integrated which means I can employ a variety of approaches and creativity to cater for your individual needs: to help achieve greater self awareness and personal development - I believe self awareness and acceptance of who we really are, is the key to change and greater personal choice.
I have a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, this was an integrative qualification which means I have an understanding of a variety of counselling approaches which I can draw upon. Before training in counselling I worked as a Paediatric nurse for 10 years in hospital and community settings, supporting sick children and their families.
Organisations I have experience with are Rape Crisis, bereavement counselling at a local hospice and Place2Be working with parents and children.
Practice description
I offer short or long term counselling to suit your individual needs, either over the phone, via Zoom, in person or a blend of all three.
I have a newly created private room to provide face to face counselling if preferred, which upholds the Coronavirus guidelines for safe practice.
Preferred delivery method can be discussed during our initial contact.
My first session
Taking the first steps to therapy can be daunting so the initial session gives us a chance to meet each other and think about what you would like to gain from counselling and consider how we might work together to fulfil your objective.
The first session will take about 6o minutes, it will involve me asking questions about your current situation and the issue which has brought you to counselling, as well as completion of some basic administration. I will then explain how I work and answer any questions you may have. The counselling therapeutic relationship is the most important element of the work so it is paramount to ensure that a counsellor is right for you. This first session will give you the opportuntiy to decide whether I am the right person to best assist you with your needs.
Please feel free to contact me via phone or email so we can arrange a convenient time to talk confidentially and find out further information.
