About me and my therapy practice

Working with an attentive and skilled therapist can enhance your life on many levels. Therapy can be a deeply transformative process as you are able to talk openly to someone knowing you will be fully accepted, regardless of what it is you have to say.

Deciding you want to start counselling and making that first contact with a counsellor is not easy. And sticking with the therapy as you uncover or face painful truths and/or explore difficult experiences can feel overwhelming at times, but I believe it's worth it.

For all my clients, however they find counselling: terrifying, challenging or a blessed relief, I have a deep respect. The work my clients undertake, the courage they show in their willingness to explore difficult and painful experiences or emotions is both humbling and inspiring.

I also share my clients' relief and joy when they, having struggled, begin to feel they are coming through the darkness; when they feel they are beginning to find a new but very real peace from what had previously troubled them.

We all face difficulties - life is challenging! And we can all benefit from having someone who is wholly on our side to help us to deal with those difficulties.

Practice description

I have a lot of experience specifically working with people who are struggling with relationships. So if you feel you are unhappy with the intensity, quality or quantity of friendships, if you feel your intimate (sexual or asexual) relationships are unsatisfactory, or if you don't have the relationships with your family that you want, then let's have an initial conversation to see how I can help.

Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness, identity, work-related stress, self-esteem - I have experience in all these areas, plus lots more... Or maybe you don't know what is wrong, but you just get a sense that 'something' isn't right. That's ok too.

I welcome people who have or want to explore diversity, whether that be diverse relationship structures and identities, for example, people who might identify as consensually non-monogamous or polyamorous, and LGBTQIA+, trans or non-binary folks, or people with (diagnosed or undiagnosed) ASD or ADHD... I also want to say that I appreciate your diversity may not necessarily be something you want to be the focus of the work we do together.

My clients find me warm, respectful and easy to be with; their feedback often speaks of the quality of the relationship we build. The work I do is effective, and ethical You will find me sincere, honest and non-judgemental.

If you would like to get a sense of me before making contact, you can listen to my podcast: This Won't Fix You.

I have a large, comfortable consulting room in central Manchester.

Fortnightly appointments welcome.

You will find more information about me on my website, or you can always get in touch.

My first session

Initial 15-minute telephone or online consultations are free.

You can use the initial phone/online call to ask specific questions, or to just have a conversation so you can find out what it feels like for us to talk. It's surprising how much you will learn from this brief exchange.

If you're unsure at this stage whether you even want therapy, or if you can't decide which therapist from the directory to make contact with, drop me an email anyway so we can schedule a call - it will be so much easier for you to decide once you have had these conversations.
