About me and my therapy practice
Before I tell a little about myself, allow me to say, well done for getting this far!!!
I am a Professionally Accredited (NSCP) Psychotherapist trained in both CBT based interventions (Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy), EMDR and Person-Centred Counselling. I specialise in PTSD, Depression and Anxiety in its various forms (i.e. Phobias, OCD, Social Anxiety etc...) with nearly 20 years experience in the field of mental health. My first aim is to help you relax. To see that yes, it is a 'safe and confidential environment for you to talk about anything that you want'. But there's no need for it to be a heavy and intense atmosphere either.
I have been told that I have a very 'earthy' approach and an 'un-fluffy' approach.
I am also a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ, NCPS, EMDR UK and also a BUPA recognise provider.
I am Supervisor for two Child Safeguarding Leads in schools here in Somerset
Although not exhaustive, the following are examples of common mental health issues that I have been treating for over 18 years:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- PTSD
- Panic Attacks
- OCD
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Specific Phobias
- Worry Management
- Anger Management
People may choose to speak to a counsellor because they feel they cannot speak to their other half/friends/family about such personal issues, or they may simply wish to speak to a professional with an objective viewpoint.
Common subjects that can be addressed within counselling include the following:
- Addictions
- Bereavement
- Bullying
- Illness
- Mental health
- Relationships
- Trauma
I am also a qualified and accredited as an EMDR Therapist
Practice description
I have been told I have a very 'earthy' approach. I don't see anything to be gained from too much nodding and repeating what you say. You will find from session one that you will have a new skill set helping you to manage whatever brought you to see me.
You are likely experiencing something that is distressing you, anxiety, low mood, or you're finding yourself trapped and are not sure which is the best direction to take.
I use a mixture of the pragmatism of CBT (Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy) with the compassionate and person centred nature of Humanistic Counselling.
I am also a qualified and accredited as an EMDR Therapist
My first session
We can have an informal chat, virtually or otherwise! It will feel light and relaxed. No pressure at all...tell me as much or as little as you want. The end of which I might offer you some thoughts and maybe some insights....either way the decision will be yours as to whether you want to continue.
If you are at all anxious about the prospect of having Face to Face, please rest assured, I worked for many years in the NHS as a Psychotherapist using both the Telephone and Video (SKYPE/Zoom etc...) as a medium for sessions. I can of course offer Face to Face appointments at my consultation room here in The Farmhouse when availability allows.
