About me and my therapy practice
My name is Feroza and I am a registered counsellor with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ) and as such abide by their Ethical Framework. I am also a lecturer on the Counselling and Psychotherapy MSc programme at Keele University.
I completed my MSc in Counselling Psychology (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Accredited Course) at Keele University in 2018. I have been working in a Mental Health and Learning Disability setting since 2014.
I have been trained in a therapeutic approach called the person-centred approach. This method of therapy was founded by Carl Rogers. Implicit in this approach of therapy is the understanding that we are all autonomous beings, with the potential to grow if appreciated, accepted, trusted and valued as a unique being, capable of self-direction.
Being non-diagnostic and person-centred means that there is not set number of session that a person may have to undertake to facilitate healing. Person-centred therapy is about not setting an agenda for my clients but being prepared to go where you wish to do so.
Our working together may be online (and you will be sent an email link for this).
I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy at the Arboretum in Walsall. The Walsall Arboretum has free parking and is a public space with benches and walking paths. It is located in the Walsall Town Centre.
Working outside can be especially helpful for people who don't have the opportunity to get out into nature very often, and for those who feel as if they thrive better when they do. The client is responsible for attire or incidents/ accidents that may arise out of walk and Talk Therapy.
Practice description
Practice Built on Compassion, Empathy and Cultural Attunement
What feels most important is the relationship that we have as client and counsellor. It is most integral to my way of working that we have a counselling relationship centred around trust. Whether we are connected through being outdoors in nature or connected via an online link, I really do believe that empathy, congruence, acceptance and patience can facilitate your exploration of whatever it is you wish to explore in our sessions.
I also have been a spiritual care practitioner for many years within the NHS. I value all people as sacred and recognize the embedding of the spiritual values of compassion, kindness, hope and love in my counselling practice.
Anti-Discriminatory Practice
I am committed to providing an anti-discriminatory service. This means that I recognize and acknowledge the intersections of our identities and I do strive to ensure that being anti-discriminatory is embedded in my practice and within all our work together.
I will always respect and appreciate you, whomsoever you are and whatever you choose to explore in our sessions.
Practice Which Commits to Social Justice
I am committed to integrating my commitment to social justice within my way of working. This means that I acknowledge that certain societal, political, cultural and economic factors can impact our health and wellbeing. I am always willing to engage in conversation around your experiences with cultural humility, reverent curiosity and unflinching compassion. I am an advocate for social justice inside and outside the therapy room.
My first session
Prior to our first session, I will send you a Therapy Contract. This might seem daunting, but for many, coming to therapy is a really huge first courageous step; the contract seeks to reassure you and details how we will work together and what we can expect from each other for our therapy sessions. It also includes information about professional obligations regarding confidentiality.
At our first session I will set some time aside for us to discuss this agreement and answer any queries that you may have. I feel it is important for us to make time in our first session to discuss this agreement, as it will provide clarity and openness about the sessions and my way of working. This can enable us to engage in a therapeutic relationship with a transparent foundation built on trust and understanding.
I will ask you to sign the agreement to show that you understand its contents before we proceed with the session.
