About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am Jamie, and I am a fully qualified, registered person-centred counsellor and also a counselling supervisor working in Lincolnshire and online.

I provide warm, confidential and non-judgemental short and long-term counselling for individuals from all walks of life. I am down-to-earth and passionate about my work.

As a counsellor, I have worked with adults, children and young people, helping them with a wide range of mental health issues and supporting them through difficult life experiences.

I attend and engage in my own regular clinical supervision to ensure that my work remains safe, ethical and effective. As a member of the 香港六合彩精准资料 (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), I adhere to their ethical framework and regularly attend Continued Professional Development (CPD) courses, events and workshops.

Do I need counselling?

People often ask, 'do you think I need counselling?' This in itself is a very difficult question to answer. If someone tells you 'you need counselling' it can make you feel that your problems must be really bad.

A better question is, 'might I benefit from trying counselling?' Many people, whatever their situation, have found counselling to be extremely helpful. It tends to be more useful, more effective and more successful if you have chosen to come because it feels like the right thing for you, rather than someone else telling you to go because you 'need to have' counselling.

Counselling might be beneficial for you if:

  • Something has been troubling you over a period of time and you are having difficulty finding a solution on your own.
  • Things are getting on top of you, and affecting your well-being, for example, causing depression, anxiety or stress.
  • You find it hard to talk to friends or family because they are directly involved in the issues.
  • Issues from the past are having an impact on your day-to-day life.
  • Things that are troubling you are having a negative impact on your relationships or work.

Practice description

There are lots of practising counsellors to choose from and it is really important that you find one that feels the right fit for you. You need someone with whom you feel you can work, someone who will really listen to you and who will do their very best to understand your world.

I realise that taking that first step towards help by contacting a counsellor can be daunting and may cause feelings of anxiety, particularly if you haven't had counselling before. The reality is that we all need help at some time, so I would encourage you to make that first step if you can.

If you feel I might be the counsellor for you, we can arrange a free 20-minute video call to meet one another and see if it feels right. We can discuss what counselling will involve, how we might work together, as well as what you want help with. This initial consultation is free and there is no obligation for you to set up sessions.

My first session

Counselling does not claim to be the answer to all difficulties, but it does offer you the opportunity to explore different ways of looking at your life. Counselling is a way of giving you time and space to discover more effective and rewarding ways of living or coping. As your counsellor, I will listen to you in a private and confidential setting. I do not offer advice. Rather, I offer you my full attention, respect and a commitment to supporting you in developing your own solutions, insights, awareness and answers to the issues that are important to you.

If you decide to start counselling, my aim will be to put you at ease in the first session. We will discuss key aspects of the therapeutic relationship, for example, maintaining confidentiality, as well as exploring in more detail what it is that's brought you to therapy. If you know what it is you'd like to achieve out of counselling we will explore that too. If you don't know, that's absolutely fine; clients don't always explicitly know what they want to achieve. Sometimes it's as simple as 'feeling normal again'. If there are lots of different things going on in your life, we can look at what you might want to work on first.

About me and my therapy practice

As a supervisor, it is my aim to build a strong working alliance with my supervisees, where trust can be established to allow for a safe place for them to come and share how things are 鈥渞eally鈥 going in relation to their therapeutic work. I am a qualified supervisor having completed my 'Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision Including Online and Telephone Working'. 鈥婭 practice a person-centred approach to supervision which emphasises the person of the counsellor/ supervisee and the development of their therapeutic abilities rather than just focusing on the individual concerns of clients.

It is my belief that when counsellors are not attuned to their own needs, fears and unconscious factors, these can negatively interfere with the client's process. Therefore a major goal of supervision is helping supervisees grow in self-awareness, self-confidence and understanding of the therapeutic process. I endeavour to offer an effective supervisory relationship which fosters a non-judgmental approach, offering both support and appropriate challenge. I aim to provide all my supervisees with my warmth and respect for them as fellow counsellors, my interest in their experiences and processes with their clients and how this might be affecting them.

My commitment is to be present where they are, to be an active agent in the supervisory relationship and to draw on my facilitative skills, knowledge and experience to provide an exploratory and educative supervisory relationship which promotes their professional growth and development. When supervising I use the Hawkins and Shohet鈥檚 Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision, which integrates the relational and systemic aspects of supervision.

As a qualified supervisor, I also adhere to and draw on the 香港六合彩精准资料 supervision competence framework and I have my own qualified 香港六合彩精准资料 supervisor who supervises my supervisee work.
