About me and my therapy practice

Do you feel stuck? Lost? Anxious? Depressed? Many of us will experience a mental health issue at some point in our lives and it is during these times that we may seek help to guide us through.

I am a counsellor and support worker with many years of experience. My mission is not to "fix" you but with guidance I will help you to find your hidden potential so you become empowered by your own strengths and resources.

I am able to sit with you whilst you explore what may feel like chaos and confusion and I can tolerate the times you may feel stuck and afraid.

I work integratively in a warm and empathic environment which allows you to feel accepted, encouraging your confidence to grow . Gently exploring you will be able to express what you are thinking and feeling and if at times you struggle we can work creatively to help you communicate how you experience your world and how this effects you.

Together we can work side by side until things feel more calm, clearer and you are better able to move forward as an independent and confident person.

I have specialism and interest in working creatively when at times it becomes difficult to express verbally. Maybe you feel very disconnected from your feelings and struggle to express them. Working creatively is a great way to allow you to explore your emotions without having to feel pressured into finding the "right words". Clients often surprise themselves how connected they are to their "story" once given the space to explore differently, finally having the ability to understand and to accept, building resilience and confidence.

My own way of dealing with chaos is spending time in nature, being creative and mindfulness.

Committing to therapy can feel daunting, that is why I offer a free initial session of 20/30 minutes to see how we get on and answer any questions or queries you may have.  I want you to feel safe and secure so you feel confident in your choice of therapist.

Practice description

I practice from home in a secure office so you can feel confident at all times that therapy will take place in a confidential space.

I will ask those of you who choose to have online therapy to be aware of your own space and how confidential it is and how safe you feel. If you would like to learn more about online therapy please head to my website.

Over the years I have worked within a number of agencies including refuges for those escaping domestic abuse.

I have worked for Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and Families Association, SSAFA, dealing with a huge range of issues including homelessness, PTSD, relationships, bullying, LGBTQ, loneliness and self harm.

I briefly worked for Place2be supporting primary school children.

I also have experience of foster care, teen pregnancies, bereavement, the benefit system, trauma and long term health issues including cancer.

Recently I have taken further training, understanding the neuro divergent brain and it's many characteristics and traits.  This has benefited me both professionally and personally.

I will provide you with a safe and secure space to explore any issue you wish to bring to counselling and you will have the confidence to know that the space will be free from any preconceptions or judgements.

I work as an Integrative Counsellor meaning I will use a variety of models and skills, you are unique and your counselling is unique to you.

I recognise that everything past and present in your life is interconnected and this may be impacting on how you are in the present moment. I hope to restore a positive sense for yourself and that life becomes more balanced.

After a number of sessions we will review how you feel about your therapy, ask if you are getting all you need from therapy and if I am meeting those needs.  It is good to know that you are getting the most from your sessions.  It is during these discussions that we would recognise that you would benefit from continued therapy with regular reviews.

My first session

Your first experience of therapy with me will be a free/taster session lasting about 20 minutes to half an hour.   It is an informal chat about whether we feel we could work together and if counselling is suitable for you.

It may be that I feel you would be better referred to a different counsellor or service or you may feel that I'm not the right counsellor for you. The time is spent understanding your needs and whether I can meet them.

Moving forward if you wish to book with me I will initially offer you  6 sessions with a review at week 6. By week 6 we will have an understanding of your story and experiences.  We may feel you would benefit from more long term counselling and further sessions, this will be discussed during the review.

You will receive a number of forms from me for you to fill out. These include an initial assessment form which, alongside the free assessment session, will help establish if I am able to work with you. Once we are agreed we can work together I will forward to you a contract and the privacy policy and data protection policy. These will be sent to you from a highly encrypted email service for privacy and security reasons.

If you have opted for online therapy we will spend some time making sure you feel confident, comfortable and safe in using your chosen method, telephone, video link, chatroom or email.
