About me and my therapy practice
I have trained in humanistic integrative counselling. Humanistic means I believe that every human being can change or adapt given the right circumstances. Integrative describes that I draw from different theories of psychotherapy, in my case Person-centered approach, Gestalt and transactional analysis.
Having had children in the last few years, I have also developed a keen interest in attachment theory.
I like my client to say what it is they want to get out of therapy and then I will support you in getting closer to that goal. I will spend a lot of the sessions listening to you and reflecting but I will also gently challenge you (if I deemed it is appropriate to do so) in order to help you move forward towards the change you wish to make.
Being an integrative counsellor means that I will use various tools and theories in response to what you might bring to the session.
I welcome people for whom English is not their native language, I have an understanding of using English as a second language and how it can sometimes be frustrating to communicate. I can work in English and French.
Practice description
Why come to see a counsellor? You might feel unsettled, something is bothering you but you cannot quite pinpoint what it is. Or perhaps you know what it is you would like to deal with and change. Whatever it is, I believe that anyone will benefit from counselling, even if it is to find out you do not need it!
My journey in counselling started because I often felt overwhelmed or enraged about many things. I had outbursts, one of these caused me to hurt myself and that made me realise I needed support. I needed to talk. You might feel like this too and this is why you are looking at this page?
When we meet, you can let me know what brings you to have therapy sessions. I will assess if it is within my remit and we can discuss further details then. When we agreed to work together, I will give you a contract with the practical terms for our counselling sessions (confidentiality, costs, cancellation etc).
Our session will last 50 minutes and ideally on a weekly basis.
Please get in touch if you would like to work with me, I hope I can help you with your own journey.
My first session
I would suggest we start with a 10/15 minutes phone call to go over details, and go over what brings you to therapy and what you are looking to achieve, and we can decide if we will work together.
