About me and my therapy practice

I am originally trained as a Humanistic Person-Centred Counsellor and an M香港六合彩精准资料 (Accred) member.

Additionally, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Health Psychology.

I have been a counsellor for the past 7 years, with over 2000 hours of experience accumulated.

I aim to assist you in exploring the possibilities available to help you bring positive change to your life, promoting long-lasting emotional well-being and conscious change.

All too often in life, we find ourselves unsettled, unable to understand why we are not our 鈥渦sual鈥 selves, unable to function as we once did.

These may feel scary, confusing and daunting. My role is to help you make that change and realise that you don't have to overcome these alone, and that lasting change is achievable. This feeling of overwhelm can often lead to depression, anxiety and anger. We often find ourselves reacting and coping in harmful or counter-productive ways, such as seeking external approval, seeking escape or oblivion in substances, isolating ourselves from others or just simply ignoring it and trying 鈥渢o get on with life鈥.

I have successfully helped clients overcome stress, anxiety, depression, problem-solving dilemmas, relationship issues, intrusive thoughts, low self-esteem, low self-worth, confidence, low self-efficacy, cultural difficulties, loneliness, and limiting beliefs.

Often people understand those as the problem, when in reality those are the indications that something in their life is not working well. These are the symptoms or "warning signs" that something has to change. The actual problem could be rooted in several possibilities such as cultural beliefs, belief systems, family dynamics, simple and complex trauma, challenges, sexuality and others.

My role is to help people to identify what the warning signs are saying and decide on how to change it.

Practice description

It is part of my core practice to always approach every client with empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence. I believe that whether unconsciously or consciously, each one of us knows best what we need, and how we can achieve it. I have successfully used my skills and knowledge to help others to find this and become self-empowered. I believe that each and every one of us has innate capabilities of achieving the best version of ourselves and in my practice, I always strive for my clients to achieve the best of themselves to overcome mental and emotional issues, gain an improved self-esteem and self-worth and to learn effective coping mechanism that will lead you to realise that you indeed can be in control of your wellbeing.

That is achieved by understanding and self-acceptance. Understanding our personal needs and limitations, discerning between limitations and self-limiting beliefs, understanding pain and development and believing and accepting that we are perfect as we are with no need for comparison is a good place to start. Once this is achieved change will start to take place and we will naturally drift towards a more positive and proactive future.

During my career, I have extensively expanded my counselling approaches, skills and knowledge and am now also highly experienced in CBT, Brief Solution Focus Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Transactional Analyses, Compassion Focus Therapy and NLP.

I work with adults who have issues brought on by broke-down relationships, loss, grief, mental health issues, personality disorders, learning difficulties and disabilities, depression, anxiety, anger, lack of motivation, substance misuse, peer pressure, bullying, academic pressure, parent鈥檚 divorce or separation amongst others.

Together we will explore each feeling, emotional event and behaviour, to the core issue, the core challenge, and the hopes, identifying strengths already available and strengths that could be enhanced.

My first session

In our first session, we will first agree on our therapeutic contract. Our therapeutic contract clarifies what we will be expected of each other and provides guidelines for when either of us is not complying with what has been agreed. This is important because it is the first step to building a trustworthy relationship, which will allow you to feel safe and understood.

After that, we will discuss the circumstances that brought you to counselling, your hopes for the future and how we are going to make those achievable. I will suggest the most suitable way to work together that will be tailored depending on your motivation, learning and receiving information style, your emotional and mental present state and the time that you have available to address it.

What I offer is a non-judgmental and supportive space, combined with several years of extensive experience to help you achieve this. In that space, together, we will focus on you and find the most suitable approach to understand you, and your needs and then use this understanding to promote change in your mental and emotional wellbeing.

Practice description

Different professionals will be inspired to aim for different outcomes. Why have I chosen to provide remote counselling sessions only?

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our way of living. One of the changes the pandemic facilitated in me is my understanding and perspective of motivation to engage in a therapeutic journey.

By happenstance I found myself in a world where expats in countries where they didn鈥檛 speak the local language fluently, could remotely engage in therapy and benefit from it. English being such an accessible language, it also meant, that expats who could access my services were not limited to those for who English was their first language. I found myself in a world where disabled clients could see me from the comfort of their homes when in the past, I wouldn鈥檛 be able to help them, as my office is not disabled-friendly.

Alongside all of that, if someone has the need, the means and the will, and all that is in between their current poor mental health and their improved self is the lack of motivation to have a shower, travel the distance to my office and back, I am quite proud in being able to bridge that gap, without judgment or question, by offering my services exclusively remotely.

By specialising in remote counselling, I can direct my resources to training and evidence that allow me to provide those clients their best experience, as there are additional skills that I need to have to be able to provide quality remote counselling.

How long we will work together will depend on what you are trying to achieve and how long they have available to achieve the change.

More often people choose to work on a goal, self-esteem, for example, deciding that will attend counselling until the goal is achieved, this is called open-ended.

Alternatively, some people might bring an issue, self-esteem for example, and ask to work on their goal for a set period, 8 weeks, for example.
