About me and my therapy practice
My aim is to empower women to make changes in their lives and feel better. Although I work with women from all backgrounds, I specialise in working with South Asian women, helping them to explore the challenges that come with navigating dual cultures.
Some of the ways I can help you:
- Manage Anxiety and Stress: Learn strategies to reduce anxiety and cope with daily stress, empowering you to regain control and find peace.
- Navigate Depression: Work through feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and fatigue with a supportive approach that helps you rediscover joy and purpose.
- Improve Relationships: Gain insight into your relationship patterns and develop healthier communication skills to build stronger, more fulfilling connections.
- Boost Self-Esteem: Uncover and challenge negative beliefs about yourself, and cultivate a more positive, confident self-image.
- Support During Menopause: Navigate the physical and emotional challenges of menopause and midlife.
- Heal After Miscarriage: Process your grief and find comfort in a safe, non-judgmental space as you work through the emotional impact of miscarriage.
- Explore Cultural Identity: Address the unique challenges of balancing cultural expectations with personal growth and well-being.

A Little About Me
Before I became a therapist, I worked as an Orthoptist (eyes) in the NHS, for over 30 years. My journey into counselling began when I sought therapy during a difficult period in my life. This experience was transformative and inspired me to change careers.
As a second generation South Asian, and a mum of grown-up children, I have lived through the many trials and tribulations that life throws at us. And it’s this combination of my life experiences, my extensive training and my passion to help others, that I bring to the counselling room.
Practice description
My main way of working is person-centred, which is talking through whatever is troubling you now, as well as exploring how your past experiences may have impacted you. I also offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based strategies and share other resources to help you manage your thoughts and feelings and make changes.
I can be flexible according to your needs, ranging from a few sessions to more long-term work, as well as weekly or fortnightly sessions.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and the cost of each session is £60.
Culturally Sensitive Counselling
As a second or third generation South Asian woman, growing up in the UK can bring its challenges, often having to navigate family expectations, cultural norms and traditional gender roles. This can result in conflict in relationships, struggles in identity, and feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness, and a general sense of not feeling good enough. To add to this, it’s often difficult to raise these issues with others and so you suffer in silence with this internal battle. There may also be a fear of judgement if personal issues become known.
This is where counselling can help. I can provide the space for you to freely share your thoughts and feelings and unburden yourself from the weight you might be carrying. As a therapist I am bound by my ethical framework and so you can rest assured that our discussions will remain confidential.
My Qualifications and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- BA (Hons) Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy (Warwick University)
- BSc (Hons) Health Sciences
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – The Association for Psychological Therapies (APT)
- Online and Telephone Counselling (Counselling Tutor)
- Narcissistic Abuse
- Anger Management
- Menopause Training
- Body Image Training
- Creative Approaches in Counselling
My first session
Prior to the first session, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. This gives you a chance to share your concerns, ask any questions, and for me to see if I can help you.
At the first session, we will explore in more detail, what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the sessions. I will ask you for some background information about your general health and wellbeing. It’s natural to be nervous at this stage, but I will do my best to make you feel at ease. You do not need to prepare in any particular way before you attend the session.
The first session will give you a sense of how we would work together. If you want to continue with therapy, we will then discuss the number of sessions that may be suitable and any other practical details.
If you would like to arrange a free 15-minute telephone consultation, please contact me. The best way is to email gatewaycounsellingwm@protonmail.com. I attempt to respond within 24 hours (except weekends).
