My first session

Counselling recognises the lasting impact of life experiences and how our conscious and unconscious interpretation of these experiences impacts on our ability to see the world around us, our motivations, and relationships. It acknowledges that different experiences will support us or can impact more negatively on our ability to engage with daily activities and on our image of ourselves.

In therapy session, you will be encouraged to think and explore how you see your current situation, and how your interpretation of what happened to you impacts your life now and not what is wrong with you. The focus of therapy is on exploring and reflecting on your past, present and your dreams and hopes for the future, rather than making a diagnosis.

I believe that everyone is an individual, and for that reason, during our first session, we will discuss your needs and agree to the contract that will be the most suitable for you at that time.

I offer:

  • Short term contracts that focus on specific situation or issue. This could be just a one-off session to up to fifteen session contract. Towards the end of the contract, you can always review your needs and decide if you would like to continue.
  • Long term, open-ended contract – we will review your needs once a year at the agreed time. Long term Psychotherapy is more suitable if you would like to work on an in-depth level or with long-standing difficulties.
  • Group therapy – a small, up to six members group that offers space for reflection, sharing and learning from each other.

Psychotherapy recognises the lasting impact of life experiences and how our conscious and unconscious interpretation of these experiences impacts on our ability to see the world around us, including intimate relationships and motivations for change. It acknowledges that different experiences will support us or can impact more negatively on our ability to engage with daily activities and on our image of ourselves.

Relationship / Couples therapy - you can chose if you want to have a short or longer contract depending on your relationship needs and goals. For couples therapy it is important that all members (usually two) are present. If you are thinking of contacting me about couples therapy, it is always best to do it together and to include both of your emails.

Group therapy – a small, up to six members group that offers space for reflection, sharing and learning from each other.

About me and my therapy practice

I have a Diploma in Counselling Supervision, and I am a committee member of the Yorkshire Supervisors Forum. I have many years of experience supervising individuals, groups and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists, body therapists, massage therapists, art therapists and teachers who work with adults.

I offer Supervision for Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Supervisors and other professionals that work with people who experience a variety of emotional distress.

I provide a supportive, respectful, and safe space for professionals and trainees to review their work. I work from an integrative perspective, focussing on the exploration of thoughts, feelings, theoretical ideas, body sensations and behaviours, to support therapists in developing a better understanding of how to support clients/ patients in an ethical, meaningful, and creative way. In this supervisory relationship, I offer space to explore the impact the work has not only on clients but also on therapists, providing space to reflect, review and replenish.

I strive to provide a dynamic and creative space, where any aspects of the work can be reviewed, processed and reflected on in a spirit of curiosity, learning, self-acceptance and development and with the client/ patients at heart.

Practice description

I strive to provide a dynamic and creative space, where any aspects of the work can be reviewed, processed and reflected on in a spirit of curiosity, learning, self-acceptance and development and with the client/ patients at heart.

I have experience supervising therapists who work with clients with a variety of life challenges such as anxiety, difficulties coping with day-to-day life, relationship challenges, bereavement, work difficulties, cultural issues, past and recent trauma including sexual abuse and domestic violence.

My specialism is in working with trauma, including complex trauma. I have been supporting therapists who work with trauma: including sexual violence, domestic violence, trafficking, torture and long-term exploitations. I support therapists to navigate the demands of legal issues such as Pre-trial therapy, safeguarding and personal need for autonomy and self-governance.

My previous experience as Senior Counsellor, offers me an insight into the challenges that therapist experience while needing to take into consideration, often different and conflicting needs and values of the organisation that they work for, their ethical body and the needs of the client/ patient. I will always strive to offer you a space to reflect on these challenges and conflicts, to enable you to find solutions and decisions that sit at the heart of your work and client’s needs.
