About me and my therapy practice
I have 19 years experience as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor, registered and accredited with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ practising in Farringdon, The City.
Are you feeling depressed, anxious or suffering from other difficult feelings? Would you like to have better relationships? I can help with the above. My focus is on supporting people to explore their thoughts, feelings and past to help relieve difficult emotional states, understand more about their patterns of behaviour and improve many areas of people's lives like their stresses, anxieties, relationships and much more.
I believe that once people have a better understanding of what drives their behaviour and their ways of interacting with others, there is the chance to truly flourish.
I have also worked for the last twenty years as a consultant, coach and trainer specialising in organisational development helping people change behaviours and build skills. I am a Partner at HealthyMinds@Work and working on medical trials to find new interventions to PTSD and Treatment Resistant Depression.
People often ask what therapy is about or how it can help. I believe it offers a unique and confidential relationship that can help you make sense of your life. It provides a safe and supportive environment to explore thoughts, feelings and concerns. Feelings like anxiety, depression, and unhappiness are often linked to past experiences and emotions that are hidden deep inside us. Therapy can help bring these into our consciousness providing people with a better understanding of many difficult states of mind. Gaining insight into what is driving your thoughts and behaviour can dramatically change how you feel.
Practice description
I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy. This concentrates on working out the cause of distress and through this understanding, comes change. It is rooted in the Freudian principle of finding out more about the unconscious processes that drive behaviour. For example, if someone keeps finishing relationships despite being desperate to find ‘the one’, psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on exploring the past to explain why this keeps recurring to help stop the pattern. Over the years I have adapted my style through study and practising new modalities and concepts.
I am also a coach, trainer and clinical trial therapist researching new mental health interventions and believe that these different roles feed into each other and enhance my approach. I use a wide range of techniques and approaches developed throughout my professional career including body work, breathing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, existential therapy, coaching, training, neuroscience, unconscious bias and heuristics and positive psychology. I tailor my approach to each client based on what I think is the most effective. However, my principal focus is on helping people explore the unconscious as this works at a deeper level and therefore the results are more significant and enduring.
