I offer face to face sessions in York on Monday and Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, and on Tuesday mornings in Sherburn in Elmet.  I also offer online  therapy sessions on Monday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning; I predominantly use Zoom video calls and occasionally telephone calls.

I have undertaken extensive training in online counselling  and I have found this an effective way of working and building a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited counsellor with over 15 years experience of counselling a range of clients.

I am a warm and compassionate person and I offer you a welcoming, safe and accepting space where we can explore your concerns. My approach is professional and respectful and we will work at your pace to explore your experiences such that you may gain understanding, insight and perspective that will help you to move forward. I work alongside you, to help you to find your own path; I won’t tell you what to do, rather we will work together to find what is right for you. Working ethically is fundamental to my practice.

I have worked in a range of settings, predominantly in the NHS where I was based within GP surgeries and worked with clients who had been referred by their GPs. I routinely encountered and worked with a huge range of client issues from anxiety and depression to sexual abuse and identity issues. I have also worked with with vulnerable women at the charity York Women's Counselling, with young people at Scarborough Sixth Form College and at Leeds Trinity University.  In addition to my private practice, I taught for a number of years on the Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at York St John University.

I offer both short and long term counselling, depending on your needs.

Practice description

I practice from conveniently located room at the Raylor Centre on James St.  There is free car parking and also the room is easily accessible from the city by foot, bike or bus.

On Tuesdays I use a room at the Eversley Centre in Sherburn in Elmet.

I also continue to offer online therapy, which I have found to be an effective medium during the pandemic.

My first session

It is really important for you to find the right therapist - someone that you feel comfortable and safe with and so we can first have a free 15-20 minute phone conversation. This gives you chance to share any concerns, to explore the best route for you (for example whether Zoom would be a good method for you), and for you to experience a little of me. There is no obligation to continue working together.

If it felt right we would then organise a full session which I call an assessment session to more fully explore both what has brought you to counselling, your history and how you want counselling to help you, and I would give you more information about what you can expect from counselling.
