About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Liz and thank you for visiting my page!  I am an experienced counsellor providing short and long-term therapy face-to-face, online or by telephone, whichever you would prefer.

We all have times and difficulties in our lives, whether from the past or present, which can sometimes feel overwhelming and can affect us in our everyday life. You will have your own unique reasons for seeking counselling which could, for example, be bereavement, depression, anxiety or trauma related issues or difficulties within relationships with others.  I am here to listen to you without judgement, analysis or direction.

When you first contact me, if you wish, you can tell me about your reasons for wishing to receive therapy and we will arrange a convenient time and day for our initial session either face-to-face or online.  The initial session will give us the opportunity to start to get to know one another and you can then decide whether you wish to have further sessions. I have found that many clients prefer to have sessions over several weeks and many continue for a much longer time.  This is always a decision for you to make and we will always review our sessions on a regular basis.  My aim is to create a safe space for us to explore concerns together, to help you reach a deeper understanding of yourself, assisting and supporting you to find a positive path forward in your life.

Practice description

I work from a Person-Centred perspective, which respects every individual as unique and of equal value and is based on the theory and philosophy of Carl Rogers.  I believe in another person's potential and ability to make the right choices for themselves and that every person has the ability to move forward and make changes in their lives in a positive way.  My aim is to enable the right conditions for this to take place by offering a safe and confidential space to talk through issues and problems.  As a Person-Centred counsellor I offer empathy, putting myself in your shoes, enabling me to understand your world from your point of view, seeing you and accepting you as you are without judgement or assumptions and being open and honest with you in the moment and sharing with you what I hear, see and feel.

My first session

When you first contact me we will arrange a convenient time and day for our initial session, which is 50 minutes in length and no prior assessment is required.  If you want to we can talk about your reasons for wishing to receive counselling or you may choose to wait until our first session, at the end of which you will have the opportunity to decide whether you wish to have further sessions.

I always confirm the initial session booking by email which gives you directions to my therapy space.  I also attach a counselling information sheet for you to read through beforehand with a summary of how I work, payment details, an explanation of the importance regarding confidentiality and my adherence to the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ ethical guidelines, including having regular personal supervision.  There are also hard copies available to give you when you arrive if you do not have an email address.  I work in a pleasant space in my home in Sovereign Harbour which is easy to access by car or the 5a bus and there is free parking either in the visitor bays or there is a free, small car park opposite Daytona Quay.
