CPD

As part of my continuing personal development (CPD) I am currently undertaking a Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching with Henley Business School (University of Reading), and offer a unique proposition to the corporate market as an Integrative Executive Coach & Psychotherapist, as well as previously being a senior leader with over 15 years of people leadership and business experience.  This means I leverage an Integrative Coaching Model (based on major psychological theories) to make a real and lasting impact on your life.

With an international client base, I work with senior professionals up to C-suite and board level, in addition to business owners and aspiring leaders. I bring more than just conventional coaching, using a range of evidence-based tools and experience that addresses business and personal issues in one comprehensive solution-focused framework, inspiring you to change positively.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a highly professional Integrative Psychotherapist with a First-Class BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling. I have over 10 years of psychotherapy experience working in the NHS, the Private Sector at The Priory, in Education, the Corporate Sector, Counselling at Mind and now in Private Practice. This means I have a broad understanding of the mental healthcare landscape, which will significantly benefit you, as I have been exposed to wide range of mental health issues, varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and gained experience in multidisciplinary teams.

I use a combination of highly influential psychological theories such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Behavioural Therapy, Schemas, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Family Systems, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Solution-Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Time to Think and Humanistic to guide my approach to working with you, and have experience with the following mental health disorders;

Depression, Anxiety (Generalised, Social, Health, Panic Disorder (with or without Agoraphobia), Academic, Phobias), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphia (BDD), Addictions (Substance, Gaming, Social Media), Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Eating Disorders (Anorexia, Binge, Bulimia), Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (formally BPD), Bipolar Disorder, Couples Therapy (Divorce, Separation, Relationship Transitions), Family Therapy (improved communications), Bereavement, Self-Harm, Suicidal Ideation, Perfectionism, Assertiveness Training, Social Skills Training, Low Self-Esteem and Confidence Issues.

This means I have a comprehensive and versatile 'toolkit' that I can draw upon to alleviate distress, support your recovery and to help you to feel truly great, not just OK. I use effective evidence-based interventions to help you better understand yourself, feel less overwhelmed by your problems, to develop healthier coping strategies and more positive ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.

Practice description

I offer a free initial 20 minute telephone consultation, as this gives us the opportunity to discuss your issues, experience the rapport and connection between us and decide if it is right for you.

I provide a safe, confidential environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment, in a comfortable, peaceful, relaxing private space.  Online sessions are also available via Zoom.

I am proud to have built a thriving international psychotherapy practice, incorporating the concept of Positive Psychology, which focuses on optimal human functioning and flourishing. Positive psychology constructs include a focus on character strengths instead of weaknesses, positive emotions, happiness, subjective wellbeing, growth mindset, flow, meaning and building the good in life. This new approach, centring on the enhancement of wellbeing, is integrated seamlessly with traditional psychology, where the emphasis is on alleviating psychological distress. This means I am able to provide a holistic framework that leads to a more robust and complete therapeutic experience for you.

Psychotherapy for Adults

Coming for psychotherapy needn't be something you only do at crisis point. We are happy to visit a doctor regularly to prevent ill health, and just like an MOT, a mental health check-up (MHC) can help keep you on track and prevent much greater problems in the future. Perhaps you're struggling with relationship or career issues or a specific mental health condition. Therapy can equip you with the tools and beliefs to enjoy more happiness, more of the time.

Psychotherapy for Young People

Bringing young people into therapy can be a daunting prospect and it can be upsetting to acknowledge that they might benefit from psychological support. However,  the earlier you can offer them effective support and treatment, the better. I can help them to learn the skills needed to overcome their difficulties, not only in the short term, but in their life ahead.

My first session

The First Session ususally involves a Clinical Assessment, which is a foundational step that ensures treatment is well-informed, targeted & responsive to your evolving needs.

What is a Clinical Assessment?

It is a comprehensive process of evaluating your mental health (social, emotional & behavioural functioning) through the use of interviews, standardized tests and observations.

Why is it Important?

It is a more accurate way of identifying mental health issues than talking alone, as many conditions can co-exist, which poses additional treatment challenges if undetected from the offset.

Why is a Clinical Assessment Crucial in Treatment Planning?

- It gives a much clearer understanding of your presenting problems, and uncovers root cause issues that might not be immediately apparent through talking alone.

- It provides a baseline, so treatment effectiveness can be monitored in real time, and interventions adjusted accordingly if you are not responding as expected.

- It encourages collaboration and engagement through SMART goal setting, enhances motivation and satisfaction from goal achievement, and empowers you to maintain progress.

- Each client is unique, with different backgrounds, experiences and needs. It allows me to formulate a personalized treatment plan that considers your specific circumstances, strengths and weaknesses.

- It can reveal potential risk factors such as suicidal ideation or self-harm behaviours. Identifying these risks early, allows me to put in place appropriate safeguarding measures for you.

- It involves in-depth conversations, which helps to build rapport and trust between us. A strong therapeutic alliance is THE key predictor of successful therapy outcomes.

- Utilising the assessment, I decide on the most suitable therapeutic modalities in my 'toolkit,' so issues can be targeted more effectively.

- Where you may need additional support, e.g., medication, it helps me to carefully coordinate care with other complimentary healthcare services.
