About me and my therapy practice
I have been working as a therapist now for 25 years and a clinical supervisor for 12. I have experience of working in education and in the voluntary sector and in Private Practice for 15 years
My initial training was in an integrative/relational model. I have since attended courses on CBT and body focused therapy.
I believe that the relationship between myself and my clients is primary in terms of healing. Almost always the difficulties you might bring will take us back into earlier periods of your life. The decision to work with this is yours.
Ways of relating to people and how you feel about yourself are formed early in life and can become a way of being that is no longer helpful.
I encourage creativity/ visual and written as this expression helps us to know who we are.
Essentially I see therapy as a collaboration where you lead on the journey.
Practice description
The first meeting will give us both an opportunity to see if we feel we can work together in a way that is helpful to you I will ask you why you think counselling might help you and you can ask me anything that you think would be useful about my practice.
.Subsequent sessions will look different as we will explore your feelings and thinking.
I believe weekly sessions give you the best chance of benefitting from therapy as this builds the relationship and lends continuity to the narrative.
It is your decision how long we work. Experience tells me that it is beneficial to know when we are going to end but again that's up to you.
I have a standard Counselling Agreement that you can see on my website re missed sessions.
My first session
I offer a free initial lphone call ( up to 30 minutes) to new clients This is because I think it's important that you make a choice of therapist that isn't governed by finances.
I will ask you what brought you to therapy and what expectations you have. I will outline how I work and ask for any questions you have.
I believe weekly sessions are helpful in building our relationship and continuity in terms of narrative. I am also happy to work on a fortnightly basis if this is a better way of meeting needs.
It is your decision how long we work for and experience tells me that planning an ending can be helpful. Often clients aren't aware that they have come to the end of Counselling until the day.
I have a standard Counselling Agreement that you can see on my website: marylcarrcaounselling.co.uk

About me and my therapy practice
My focus in supervision is on the supervisee's process. It's very important to understand what we are experiencing when we listen to clients; our own history has resonance with the other person's story. It's crucial that we explore and understand this. I think of this as the narrative interface.
I work in a relational model in supervision as I do in therapy. I encourage you to bring all aspects of working with clients. On occasion it might be that I suggest you to engage with your own therapy.
Supervision brings a safe relaxed space where you can reflect on all your experiences of being a therapist. This isn't easy work but it's rewarding and I hope to give experienced support to you.
I have a background in Creative Writing and promote this as a therapeutic intervention. I also work with visual art work.
I have worked as a supervisor for 15 years and have had very diverse experience-: I have supervised counsellors in Domestic Violence, South Yorkshire Police, schools and Mental Heath organisations ( MIND) as well as private practice.
