About me and my therapy practice

I have worked as a therapist for over 25 years. I have worked with individuals, couples, young people, children and families. I have been a supervisor for the last 16 years.

My introduction to the world of counselling and therapy was through my own need to understand and stop feeling so bad about particular relationships. Seeking a therapist for me was so helpful that eventually I started training as a therapist.

The main trainings I have had were in Psychodynamic, Systemic, transpersonal and creative therapies. I have worked with Relate, Place2Be and YMCA (as a supervisor).

I have trained with Relate, IFT, IATE and P2B

Practice description

If you are reading this it is likely that you are curious about counselling and you need to know whether you will be listened to and understood, whether you will be judged and whether it will be helpful. My aim is always to try to create a safe and warm relationship where all clients can feel respected, supported and valued. It is very important to find someone you feel that you can build trust with. And it is also important to find someone who you feel you can challenge and question if something doesn't make sense or feel right. My training and my experience encourage me to believe I can provide this.

Couples work involves looking at what you each bring to the relationship, your histories, your patterns around relationship, how you communicate and how you manage difference. For example we might discuss the stories in your family of origin about gender, roles, culture, sex and sexuality.  It might mean that within the work I see each partner individually that would be discussed and agreed together.

My first session

An initial consultation

I offer an initial free 20/30 mins phone call before any decision or commitment is made. This first short talk is an opportunity for us to see if we can work together and for you to let me know what you would like to focus on and your expectations of therapy.

I will also ask you some questions along the way and offer my own reflections on what you have told me. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions or concerns you may have about starting therapy. I work in person in Hastings and online.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced supervisor. I supervise work with children, young people and adults. I have worked for over 15 years as a supervisor.

I have worked as a supervisor for two different charities : Place2be and YMCA. These were both charities that specialise in working with children and young people.

I like to bring creative and playful techniques into the supervision. As well as deep listening and a curiosity about the relational dynamics on all levels. I have trained in psychodynamic and systemic theories. So I am interested in the unconscious, the subconscious and the conscious interactions.

An ex-supervisee said; " It has been a pleasure working with you for the past 3 years, my confidence has grown with you by my side, gently challenging and encouraging me to use my voice".

I now work in private practice as a supervisor and therapist.

Practice description

My training was mainly in psychodynamic, systemic, transpersonal and creative modalities.

The supervision model I tend to use is Shohet's 7 eyed perspective.
