About me and my therapy practice
I am an MA-qualified Integrative Psychotherapist working from Hennock, near Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, TQ13 9QB. My core training is with children from around the age of 6, adolescents and young people. Over the course of the last ten years in practice, I have also built up knowledge and experience of integrative psychotherapy with adults of all ages.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, my way of working combines my knowledge and understanding of different elements of psychological theory and technique to match the specific needs of individuals seeking therapeutic support with a number of life challenges.
With children and young people, this involves creating a trusting environment where they feel safe and held enough to tell their story. I often use play therapy to help me to do this, and sometimes work with parents to enhance their understanding of their child’s emotional life.
With adults, my approach is to explore with the client their underlying experience and likely causes of their emotional pain. We work together to understand the origins of patterns of behaviour in response to past experiences which have impacted their ability to manage painful emotions. In this way, I help them strengthen their own ways of coping, and develop others so they can lead happier and more fulfilled lives with a deeper understanding of their inner world.
I am also an Accredited Member with the Foundation for Infant Loss, trained to work therapeutically with parents and families experiencing difficulties as a result of infant loss.
Practice description
I prefer to work face-to-face, but do offer some telephone contact alongside this. I am also happy to conduct some sessions by Zoom or Skype. Sessions are for one hour. I do not make a charge for the initial meeting. Please contact me by email or text in the first instance.
I have a current Covid policy and work within Government guidelines.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet, to see how we get on, and to decide whether we can work together. In the case of child clients, this session is a very important one, as it is important to encourage a good rapport from the outset. I ask a few questions about the client’s life and family and what has brought them to therapy at this time. It is a free and relaxed session, designed to introduce myself to the client and an opportunity for me to decide whether I am the right person to help. I do not make a charge for this session.
