About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I鈥檓 Olivia.

The majority of my practice involves supporting people (age 25+) through life transitions such as a bereavement, the end of a relationship (or contemplating one), becoming a parent, trying to conceive, children leaving home, making the decision to change or stop work, and ageing 鈥 often losses that aren鈥檛 always recognised as such. I also enjoy working with different experiences and for over ten years have been supporting people their with anxiety, depression, sexuality, affairs and betrayals, complicated family dynamics and recovery from abuse to name a few. I'm passionate about helping people through challenging situations.

I trained as a person centred therapist, which means that I put our relationship at the centre of our work. As your therapist, I鈥檓 concerned with understanding your point of view and helping you to understand yourself better. I work to create a space just for you that is safe and non-judgemental and I will value your uniqueness. I鈥檓 also myself; I try not to hide behind a clinical fa莽ade and I鈥檒l be open with my thoughts and feelings when appropriate. If it would be helpful, I can offer feedback so that you have insight into how others may experience you.

Whatever you are going through, I will support you to feel and process your emotions safely. Everyone鈥檚 journey is different, but common themes that my clients have said they have gained from our work together are more clarity, better connections with others, a relief from the intensity of what they were feeling and a desire and ability to live more authentically.

I became a therapist because of some of my own life experiences and the benefits that therapy gave me. I enjoy making connections with people and I value what makes us complex and unique. As a child I was, and still am, an avid reader; I love hearing people鈥檚 stories and being a therapist feels like a natural continuation. I look forward to helping you tell yours when you are ready.

Practice description

I hold a BA (Hons) degree in Person Centred Counselling from the University of Middlesex and a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling from the Metanoia Institute in London.

In addition to my initial training, I have studied the neuroscience of anxiety, attachment and trauma (currently completing) which I bring to my work when applicable.

I volunteered for two years with the Wandsworth Bereavement Service which gave me strong experience in supporting people with loss, complicated grief and traumatic bereavement. I then went on to further training in baby loss, including miscarriage and stillbirth.

After my own struggles, I am passionate about supporting parents who may be having difficulty adapting to the often overwhelming demands that new and young parenthood can bring, and helping you to find a way to parent that feels right for you and your family.

I am a mother of two: one neurodivergent, one neurotypical, both fantastic and both challenging. I know first hand the unique, broad and often intense challenges that raising a neurodivergent child can bring us and I welcome working with parents who may be struggling with this.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the charity sector in the UK, Germany and Asia.

Testimonials (published with consent):

鈥淲hen I came to you I was definitely a bit broken, and ready to put myself back together - with a bit of guidance. I remember before these sessions that I was depressed and unmotivated and lost, a bit stuck overall - and I can鈥檛 remember how that feels, I just know I don鈥檛 feel that way anymore. I feel in tune, I have clarity and feel like I have my compass back.鈥 - MG

"I knew something was not quite right but I did not know what. I did not think therapy was for me but felt the need to talk. Olivia鈥檚 warmth made my first steps comfortable. This journey opened my eyes to many aspects of myself, allowing me to know myself better and accept myself more. I felt much lighter at the end of our time together. Thank you.鈥 - NC

My first session

It鈥檚 important that you find a therapist who is right for you and for this reason I offer a free 15 minute introductory call and following this, a free initial session if you would like to.

The initial session is an opportunity to explore your situation in more depth and how I can help you. It鈥檚 also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the counselling that you need to. From this session, you will get a sense of how I work and whether I am the right counsellor for you; I believe that the quality of the relationship between client and counsellor is incredibly important and so it is worth doing a bit of research to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with and who is a good fit for you and your needs.

If we decide not to continue, then I will try and point you in the right direction of someone who may be able to help. I welcome all enquiries and I will respond to you within twenty four hours.

I know that it can feel hard to take the step to contact and meet with a counsellor. My first priority is to help you to feel safe to tell your story and many clients have commented that they feel able to talk about what most concerns them from early on in our sessions. You will always be treated with respect and kindness and we will always go at your own pace.

If you would like to arrange an initial session, please get in touch through by sending me an email or text. I will respond to you within twenty four hours.
