About me and my therapy practice
My private practice has always been the core of what I do and who I am as a therapist. Whatever has brought you to consider having counselling, I will offer you empathy and compassion. Non-judgement and will be by your side on your journey helping you to find your own way forward. I work in a Person-Centered way but over the years have developed a more integrative and humanistic tool kit which I can dip into to meet each clients individual needs.
Practice description
I think it is always important to share a bit about my career history which I have developed alongside my private practice over the years.
I have over 14 years’ experience working as a counsellor. While training, I have always been interested in understanding trauma and I wanted to help people recover and heal from having experienced trauma.
After qualifying I spent the first 10 years of my career working with children and adults that had experienced domestic abuse and sexual violence. Doing additional specialist training in trauma and then training as an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist. This being the NICE guidelines recommended psychological therapy alongside CBT, for trauma and PTSD.
I have worked in various fields doing this work including private, public and charity sector as well as private practice.
After 10 years in this field, I wanted a change and worked specifically within mental health settings, again both community and private settings. This has given me a wide breadth of experience and working and helping people with a wide range of emotional difficulties as well as navigating life events and transitions.
I will always offer you warmth and a place of emotional safety.
My first session
The first session entails some information gathering so I can understand what has brought you to consider counselling and what you hope to achieve. Counselling is a deeply personal experience and it is important that you feel you can gel with me. This sessions gives you the opportunity to think about that. There is never the expectation from me that if we meet for an initial session you will automatically want to work with me. If at the end of the session you are happy to continue we will set some expectations with regards to session times, frequency and potential goals that work for you. There will be a client contract for you to complete and I will complete a generic risk assessment.
