About me and my therapy practice
I have been a qualified Counsellor for over 15 years and during that time I have gained extensive knowledge and experiences which have become invaluable to me in the support I offer and provide to clients.
My core approach is Person-Centred Counselling, which puts you at the heart of the therapeutic process. I offer a safe and caring style of counselling where I aim to support you in understanding your experiences and thoughts. This approach can help with a wide range of issues that may leave you feeling unsure, unhappy, angry or traumatised.
Person-Centred Counselling is non-directive, meaning the choice of what to talk about and when, is led by you. I do not offer advice, but I will offer a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic and supportive environment which can facilitate reflection and growth.
I am also a qualified NLP Practitioner (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and have studied and attained further knowledge of other counselling disciplines (CBT/Gestalt/Psychodynamic, Mindfulness) which I draw on at times to help meet my clients’ needs.
Apart from my private practice, for over 7 years, I have been providing support as a Specialist Trauma Counsellor for a Charity that specialises in supporting survivors of sexual violence and abuse, and particularly survivors of child sexual abuse and trauma.
I am a trained Bereavement Counsellor and have a special interest working with individuals who are bereaved through suicide.
For me, it is such a pleasure to see someone find that inner strength within to empower themselves to achieve their goals. No matter where we are in life, childhood, adolescence or adulthood, we can find ourselves lost and in need of support. Sometimes we feel as though we are drowning and in need of a flotation device. Either way, I am confident we can find a way of getting you to a safer and healthier place without judgement.
Practice description
I am based in Catford, SE London where I offer face-to-face sessions.
I also offer tele-therapy (video or 'phone sessions) - particularly for clients who are unable to leave their home. Working online means I am able to work with you wherever you are and can be more flexible - Daytime and evenings. I offer short or long-term counselling support.
I work with a wide range of issues and have had specialist training in supporting clients who have experienced trauma, survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) and those who are bereaved by suicide. I also have experience supporting clients wishing to explore gender, sexual and relationship diversity.
Apart from working from a Person-Centred perspective, I have had additional training in Psychoeducation, CBT, Mindfulness and NLP. I will combine my years of Continual Professional Development (CPD) where I gained extensive knowledge and experiences, and will may use a combination of the disciplines if appropriate in accordance with my client's needs as appropriate, in order for them to obtain optimum support from me.
Please get in touch. I will offer 20 minutes at no cost as an introduction. I will tell you about me how I work, what I offer and please feel free to ask questions. If you wish to meet with me, I will explain about the next stage which would be Your First Session - I treat this as a Consultation/ Assessment where I will learn more about you. Hopefully you will get a sense of whether I'm someone you'd like to offer you counselling support.
My first session
This First Session will be an Assessment for me to get to know more about you. During this appointment, I will take notes in order to ensure I have the accurate information. This will be kept confidential and within GDPR requirements.
This meeting is usually also about who we are and how we will work together and questions may be asked from both sides.
I will explain more about my counselling modality and the other modalities I can offer and whether I may use any of them to help you in your progress. If you would like for us to set goals please do.
If you would like me to continue as your counsellor during or after this first session, then we could read through the contract together, you may add something of your own if you wish to do so.
Counselling will normally take place at a regular agreed time, once per week (fortnightly or other) for 50 Minutes.
