I am sorry but I do not have space for new clients currently.  I work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday afternoons.

About me and my therapy practice

I am based in the Hamble/Netley Abbey area of Southampton and provide supportive, caring, non-judgemental counselling. I have been in practice for many years and work with people of all ages, races, sexualities and genders and with a wide range of issues. I offer face to face, phone and online counselling with individuals and couples.

I have extensive experience in working with trauma (in particular, sexual and domestic abuse) and with alcohol and other addictions. I also specialise in working with young people from age 14. I work with a very wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, sexuality, bereavement, relationships, family and work issues, o.c.d. and eating disorders to name but a few.

I am qualified as an EMDR therapist and am a member of the EMDR Association UK.

I have 5 years experience in a drugs and alcohol agency and 4 years with a charity dealing with domestic and sexual abuse. I have also worked as a therapist in a senior school and university and for a children's home and school specialising in helping young people  affected by trauma and school exclusion. As well as my private practice I work as a counsellor for employee assistance programmes and Victim Support. I hold an advanced certificate in couples counselling, an OCN certificate in supervision and am accredited by the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ.

I am registered with several insurers and healthcare providers including BUPA, AXA, Aviva and Healthcare RM

My fee for individual sessions is £55 for 50 minutes, students undergoing counselling training pay £50, supervision for practicing counsellors is £55 for 1 hour, couples counselling is £70 for 1 hour.  EMDR where appropriate as part of counselling is included in the fee.  For longer sessions of EMDR where it is not part of ongoing counselling  the fee is £70 for 1 hour.  There is a surcharge of £5-10 per session for organisations and I have a 24 hour cancellation policy.

Practice description

I have a self-contained consulting room with wc facilities and private entrance. I live in a semi-rural area with plenty of free on-street parking.

My first session

I work in a flexible way so you are welcome to book a session without any obligation to book more.  I charge in the normal way for this session so it is a full 50 minutes to enable us to talk about the reason you are seeking counselling and to start to work on the issues.  Most people find this both a useful way of finding out how it would be to work together and find the session in itself useful.  If either of us feels we are not right for each other after the session then we can stop there.  Or, if we agree to continue working together, we can then discuss the detail of how we would do this and set out our way forward.

My first session

I work flexibly so you are welcome to book a session with no obligation to book any more.  I charge for the session in the normal way and find that this is the best way of getting to know each other and what supervision would be like.  Most people find this works well and that the session itself is useful but if either of us is not comfortable afterwards then it is fine for us to say so and move on to try another supervisor.
