About me and my therapy practice
My approach is Integrative and is informed by my training background, i.e. BA Hons Acting (GSMD); MA Dramatherapy (Sesame), HCPC registered; Dip Integrative Psychosynthesis (Re-Vision), MÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ; Post-Dip, Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapy (Re-Vision); currently pursuing a Diploma in Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) at Pink Therapy.
Since 2006 I gained extensive experience working in mainstream and neurodiverse schools for Roundabout Dramatherapy; for The Awareness Centre, I worked as a counsellor on their low-cost counselling service and within NHS settings providing time-limited counselling for patients accessing the IAPT service.
I've worked in acute adult psychiatry as a Dramatherapist on the Arts Psychotherapies Team for the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, facilitating groups and individual sessions for patients living with a variety of mental health challenges.
My Private Practice includes Creative Arts Supervision & short/long term Counselling and Psychotherapy. I've worked in Private Practice for 14 yrs.
Practice description
I offer therapeutic "space" where you can explore emotional difficulties in a confidential, non-judgemental environment.
You might seek therapy when there is something in your life you want to change &/or face into and you need to explore your thoughts, feelings and actions in more depth.
We might need to work together for a relatively brief period - e.g. 6 or 12 weeks; however, as the sessions progress we could discover that much more needs to be explored, in which case we might work for a year, two years or even longer than that.
My role is not necessarily to tell you what to do; instead, we can interrogate your presenting challenges and look at them from multiple perspectives; this could then enable us to uncover root causes and solutions that are not only specific to you, but will ultimately come from you.
This is a journey that takes time and consistency for it to be effective, as a result, the clients with whom I work, find that regular, weekly sessions are preferable. Eventually, you can find that the process allows for increased self-understanding.
The relational aspect of the work could also help you to appreciate another person's point of view more fully, enabling greater clarity around your understanding of the words/actions of others.
My first session
Our first meeting will be an assessment - an opportunity to look at what might bring you to therapy, why now and to check that we're happy to work with each other. Some themes that we will also explore include - the history of the issues which bring you to therapy, family history - parents, dependents, siblings; early life events; relationship history; quality of friendship circles; spiritual interests (if any) and importantly - the goals that you would like to achieve.
