About me and my therapy practice
Whether it’s one or a series of events that have led you to consider seeking counselling, it is important to understand how counselling can help you.
Counselling will give you the opportunity to talk about what is troubling you. Sometimes it is difficult to find the right words to express your thoughts and feelings; I will help you and really listen to you. Once you have expressed things out loud, it is often easier to see your way forward.
I believe the client is the expert so my role is not to advise you, but to help you find your own way to handle your situation so that the quality of your life is improved. I will help you to explore your own circumstances so as to develop a better understanding of yourself. You can then explore alternatives and, if you wish, make some changes in your life.
Opening up about painful and difficult subjects may feel overwhelming. What I offer is a safe, confidential environment where you won’t be judged or made to feel embarrassed about expressing your feelings, thoughts and emotions. I will always respond in an honest way, whilst offering support and encouragement.
At certain times in life, opening up to your closest family and friends is not an option due to fear of upsetting them, or worrying they won’t understand and will judge you. Perhaps it is them that is causing your pain? Counselling offers a space for you to talk about your issues without feeling judged or misunderstood. You don’t have the worry that you are going to be discussed or talked about between family or friends as everything you share with me stays between us.
Humanistic counselling believes that all human beings have an inbuilt capacity to grow and reach their full potential. Counselling can help in many situations, for example, Loss and Bereavement/Stress/Anxiety/Depression/Lack of self-confidence/Abuse.
Practice description
I am a fully qualified Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ accredited therapeutic Counsellor and have been practising for 10 years. I trained as a Person-Centred Counsellor but at times I may use parts of other approaches in order to offer a service that fits the individual needs of the client.
In addition to my private practice, I work at a school in Lincolnshire as their School Counsellor, supporting children between the ages of 8yrs and 13yrs old.
Before that, alongside my private practice, I worked for Victim Support for 4 years as an accredited ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) supporting children and young people who have been victims of sexual violence. I also supported the parents/caregivers/siblings who were struggling to come to terms with what their loved one had been through. I also have experience working with clients who are victims of domestic violence.
I am an experienced bereavement Counsellor having worked in a Hospice as a loss and bereavement Counsellor for 4 years. I worked with carer’s of patients and patients themselves who were living with a life limiting illness or who were terminally ill. I worked with clients who were struggling to come to terms with their loss and could not see a positive future for themselves.
I have worked as a Counselling Lecturer at Grantham College and I have also worked as a Counsellor in a secondary school working with 13-18 year olds who presented a whole range of issues. Examples of other issues which I have worked with clients on are relationship issues, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.
I am qualified to diploma level and am a registered member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ. This means I am bound to working within their professional and ethical code of practice. I attend regular training and supervision in line with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ code of practice which ensures I am offering clients a professional and safe service. Again, this is all confidential and clients anonymity is never put at risk. I also hold professional indemnity insurance.
My first session
Making contact with me may feel like a giant first step, but there is nothing to be fearful of. I’m here to help you. Choose the best way you would like to be contacted, whether it be by email or telephone; whichever you feel most comfortable with. I will then contact you to arrange our first appointment.
I work in my therapy room based in the village of Tickencote, just outside Stamford off the A1. When you arrive please feel free to park on the private driveway or on the road where there is free parking.
The purpose of our first appointment is an opportunity for us to meet and decide if we feel comfortable about working together. We will discuss your particular needs and any questions you may have can be answered. What you say to me is confidential and I will say more about this at the first appointment. This appointment will last for 30 minutes.
At the end of the first session we will discuss the opportunity for further sessions. These will be booked in for the same time each week and will last for 50 minutes. All sessions are on a 1 to 1 basis with me.
Every client has their own individual needs and therefore the number of sessions required will be reflective of this. Some clients only need a few sessions whereas some may find longer term therapy beneficial. Sessions are taken at your pace.
