Practice description

I work with adult individuals (18+), relationships, and families. I also supervise, and offer consulting services to private and public companies. I am an experienced speaker, trainer, and author.

My approach to psychotherapy is based on Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB). I describe the way I work and how I think of therapy in Therapy Without A Therapist, which is available on Amazon in paperback, and on Kindle.

In this short book I explain how I see psychotherapy and my role as a therapist. It aims to take the mystery out of therapy. Given what we know now, there is no reason for psychology or therapy to remain a mystery to people, and therapist should be clear about how they work and how their work would help their clients.

I would like everyone to have a good understanding of what therapy is, how it works and why, as well as what therapists do, or should be doing. This supports people who seek therapy to make better informed choices.

Therapy Without A Therapist is part of a series of short books covering trauma, anxiety, grief, and relationships. The entire series, including a more recent workbook/journal to accompany Therapy Without A therapist are available on Amazon worldwide.

For psychotherapy to work, our brain has to change, more specifically our brain’s connectivity has to improve. Therapists cannot change their adult clients’ brains directly in any significant way. They can only facilitate and support change. I work jointly with my clients to support the correct practice that lead to the neurological development that is associated with good mental health, growth, and maturity. It is a way of working that is accurate, practical, efficient within a compassionate, warm, flexible, and creative context.

Mental health is too important to leave to guesswork and chance, and clients need to also be given the tools to see and impact of therapy for themselves. Therapists ‘believing’ that therapy works is not good enough, and clients deserve much better than this.

My first session

The first session an opportunity for a two-way assessment.

My role: 1) To assess whether what the client wants and needs out of therapy is compatible with what I offer. 2) To explain what I do and why, and how it will address the client’s concerns.

Client’s role: To assess whether they feel I am the right therapist for them, based on their interaction with me, what I explain and how I explain it.
