About me and my therapy practice

I work as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¾«×¼×ÊÁÏ Accredited)  and also as an EMDR therapist,at New Hope Counselling.

Are you facing difficulties or issues which are hard to make sense of? Maybe you are feeling like things are never going to change?

I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, abuse, trauma, bereavement, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and mental health issues. I also specialise in working with health issues and those having experiences of ICU - as a patient, relative of a patient or an ICU staff member.

I can offer you the time and space to explore whatever is troubling you or causing you distress, and help you to identify ways to bring about hope, change and healing. I work in a gentle, empathic and non-judgemental way, giving you a safe and confidential place to explore your thoughts and feelings, come to a greater understanding of your situation and find a way to move forward.

The therapy I provide is predominantly talking therapy but I also offer creative ways of working such as drawing, journaling and sandtray therapy, if it is something you would find helpful. I am also able to offer EMDR therapy to help work through and process a traumatic event.

EMDR therapy can also be very helpful for people who have an unsettled or difficult experience of family life as a child and are struggling with anxiety, depression and their self-esteem as an adult.

Counselling gives you the time and opportunity to explore what is really going on for you with a warm, caring person who listens impartially and will not judge you.  It does not involve me giving you advice but rather enabling you to gain your own perspective and insight into what we look at together. This will in turn empower you to understand what is best for you in order to make positive changes in your life.

Practice description

I work as a Pluralistic Counsellor. This means that I work with you as a client to help you identify your goals and needs in therapy. I then offer you different ways of working through things and you choose the option which you feel is best for you. We review regularly, how you feel the therapy is going and make adjustments to how we are working together to fit with what you are needing from therapy.

I predominantly work in a talking therapy way , but I can also offer other ways of working such as looking at picture cards, sandtray therapy, role play and filling out CBT worksheets. I also offer you specific tools (e.g for managing anxiety) which you can use to help you manage your daily life.

I am also trained in EMDR therapy which means that I am to offer sessions in this for people wanting to process a traumatic event ( please see my website for more information about this).

My first session

My first session is a time for us to meet and for you to get a feel for how it would be to have counselling sessions with me. As with all my sessions it lasts for one hour.

With in-person sessions, we have a bit of paperwork to fill out. With online/telephone sessions there will be forms to fill out before the first session.

In this session, you can share what you are wanting to look at in counselling and what you are hoping to gain from counselling. I can explain a bit more about how I work and how I might be able to work with you for your specific needs.

If the session goes well for you, you then have the option of booking another session with me. If the first session is not what you were hoping for then just let me know, and maybe continue looking for another counsellor, better suited to your needs.

I offer supervision sessions at various times during the day from Monday-Thursday as well as early evening sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

About me and my therapy practice

I provide Clinical Supervision for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.I have completed the Level 6 CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Supervision. I currently offer sessions in person or online via Zoom.

I see supervision as not only giving you an opportunity to talk through your work with an experienced therapist, but as a place where you can explore your own process around what is happening in the therapeutic relationship. I will also encourage you to develop a greater awareness of your personal feelings and responses to client work.

I aim to support and encourage you in your practice, but also to sensitively challenge you when necessary. I believe that all these aspects are important , to enhance your work with clients.

I am happy to work creatively in supervision, if it is something you would find helpful, as this can often bring a deeper level of awareness to the supervision work.

Practice description

My core training was in the Person Centred Approach (CPCAB Level 4)  but I consider myself to now be more of a Pluralistic Counsellor , as I offer clients choices regarding working with different counselling approaches.

I am familiar with the Connections Model taught by the Devon and Cornwall Counselling Hub for those who have trained locally to me, in recent years.

I use the Seven-Eyed Process Model of Supervision in my work as it provides an effective way to look at all aspects of counselling and supervision work.

I offer an initial free 30 minute session for us to meet  (in person or on Zoom) and talk together, to help you decide whether you would like to book a full session of supervision.

My first session

I offer an initial 30 minute free chat. On the first session we fully explore your supervision needs and then start looking at client work in subsequent sessions.
