About me and my therapy practice

My name is Sara, and I am an experienced counsellor working in Hove.

My original training is Humanistic, which emphasises the human capacity for growth and development. I believe we all have the capacity for change, and that we are all unique individuals who respond to our lives and circumstances in different ways. This means there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer. I will work alongside you to find the right approach to meet your needs.

I have particular experience working with grief and loss, patterns in relationships, loneliness, low self-esteem (including inner voice/thoughts), anger, fertility issues, anxiety and trauma.

I have also completed additional training in creative arts facilitation with the Association for Person Centred Creative Arts (APCCA), and I can work creatively in my practice, using art, image work and guided visualisations. Not everyone wants to do this, and it is not required. However if you'd like to try, using art in therapy can be helpful when it’s difficult to find the words, or as another way to access and express what needs our attention. I will support you to find your own meaning in the image. You do not need art experience, and it is not about judging the ‘quality’ of the artwork that is produced. This is about using creativity to further self-understanding and healing.

Practice description

Sessions last for 50 minutes, and are usually weekly. I aim to provide a safe, warm and welcoming space for our meetings.

I offer short term or open-ended work, with regular reviews to see if you are getting what you need from the sessions.

My first session

I understand that it can be difficult to take the first step towards counselling, and that it can be confusing to choose someone. That is why I offer free introductory session, so we can see how it is to meet, and talk through how sessions could be helpful for you if you decide to go ahead.

Further sessions are £50 - £60. I am committed to offering some spaces at a lower cost when concession rates are needed, so please ask.
