About me and my therapy practice
Wild Places Therapy has been formed from over 20 years experience practicing as an accredited Humanistic/Person Centred Counsellor, merged with my deep love of nature and an acknowledgement of the transformative processes found in the cycles of nature. Our sessions together are held in designated natural spaces in Stevenage and Hertford (although some flexibility can be offered here) and offer the opportunity to walk or sit in nature whilst working together therapeutically.
More and more of us live with an experience of disconnection, overwhelm, anxiety and alienation from community, particularly when our lives are given over to surviving the impact of trauma and wounding, or when we feel a build up of pressure in our working or family lives. The natural world can, for many of us, feel very separate from our everyday experience, and yet our bodies are made from natural earth material and so spending time in nature will often help us to gain perspective and stability.
By exploring, sitting with and metabolising your emotions, Wild Places Therapy can help you discover acceptance and self-trust. Working with the seasons and with natural spaces can help you gain context and freedom from layers of conditioning, programming, worn out beliefs and values, it can help you cultivate a more authentic and joyful relationship with your own life, able to find your place in the world.
Practice description
Our sessions together will be held outside at specified locations in Stevenage or Hertford on either parkland, common or woodland. Car parking is available at all locations. Whilst none of the locations are high challenge terrain, the ground we cover can be uneven and subject to natural seasonal changes and we meet in most all weather conditions.
We will spend each session roaming or sitting (or a combination of the two) in therapeutic dialogue and this may include some mindful or silent practice as you develop a relationship with both your own self and the natural space that holds us. Every therapeutic relationship is kindled with care and with respect for your capacity to develop personal agency and authenticity. You are encouraged to develop at your own pace, evolving as nature urges, which supports the process of self-responsibility and belonging.
My first session
Ahead of our first session and forming part of your initial enquiry, we can talk together for up to 20 minutes on a zoom or phone call, to establish what you seek and how I may help you.
Once we have agreed to work together, you will be asked to sign a Client Form and a Data Consent Form, both designed to provide you with information regarding the nature and boundaries of our work together.
Our first session together will be held in the natural space we have agreed upon, where we will begin a therapeutic dialogue and consider your reasons for embarking upon counselling.
